It’s revolving door of shattered dreams, the heat and allergies weeds out the weak.

My experience is rather different moving to the Austin Metroplex area back during 2010. I flew here from Alaska. I had lived in Wasilla, Alaska and the very first thing I noticed in March of 2010 was how warm it was. One thing I still can't get used to is the triple-digit HEAT! OMG! The cost of living here as opposed to Alaska is reverse of what people are saying. EVERYTHING in Alaska is a LOT higher. A gallon of milk was over $5 snf $6. In Nome Alaska a gallon of Gas was $7. Oh and work, you might find seasonal labor there but here you can work year round. The biggest issue I have had is the infamous Austin TRAFFIC! 7 AM and 5 PM traffic make the major roads virtually a parking lot! I35, Mopac, 183 and so on. My wife and I now live North West of Austin in the very tip end of Travis County and we avoid that traffic as much as possible. So when they say housing prices are high and taxes are high I kind of snicker a bit because it is way more expensive where I am from in Alaska! WAY more. One thing I had trouble with being an Alaskan who moved to Texas was as Alaskans we are not used to very many people living around us. The total state population in Alaska, all of Alaska, is less than the population of Austin! No kidding. So when I first encountered traffic here and going to places such as the grocery store it literally overwhelmed me. My wife asked me what was wrong and I muttered, "Too many people here! I am not used to this." It took me a few years to be able to deal with the SHEER massive population here. Phew!

The human body's adaptability is the wildest part of your story to me .. kinda like you think the Innuit just live in their igloos but you don't imagine how they could just move to the tropics and adapt lol

Just moved here, surprised how little sun I see in a given week. Mornings are cloudy about 75% of the time, and if the sun does come out, it's later in the afternoon.

@matt.vanwinkle

Austin loves food trucks! There are tons of food truck parks and lots. A bunch of very popular Austin restaurants got their start as food trucks.

130 ticketed live music events in a year? What does that mean? There’s like 130 live music events every night in Austin.
