Possibly considering a move to Deland from NJ. I like the more urban areas with places that you can get to by foot.

Closer to downtown Deland, or maybe even Sanford might be good options. Give me a call and let's see if I can help you narrow down the best option for you.

Thank you for this informative guide. I hadn't heard of your fair city until now. I live in Michigan and I'd love to be able to move to Florida! That's not currently possible but I'd definitely check out DeLand if it was. I especially like the downtown area with so many local businesses. My small city lost its downtown area about 20 years ago when big retailers opened up stores near the city limits. In order to compete, all the local downtown businesses relocated to that area. I'd dearly love to have a downtown area to stroll around and shop again. Plus, all the local eateries and beautiful parks in DeLand sound heavenly! I'd never be wanting for something to do again! I better start buying lottery tickets or something. 😂

What city are you in? I was born in Flint and lived in the central Florida and East Lansing area. I didn't like Florida for many years-but I LOVE it now!

I'd not heard of Deland before now & you did a very good job sharing a general feeling for & view of your town. I think it would have been helpful to your audience (and beneficial marketing for your town) to have included the current ranges of home prices in the different areas you discussed. I don't find Fl an attractive place to live in general,, but seeing Deland I'm inclined to check the re listings online. Great job!! thank you!

Ninette-Thank you for the feedback and that is a good point. In general, prices in our area are significantly less than the Orlando area. The median home price in our area is around $275,

@TheShaverGroup2 жыл бұрын
@@ca9777 I guess if you like the Hollywood night life it might be boring in comparison. I like the small town feel, but there's things to do too. There are some great bars and restaurants, an art museum, a theater and a climbing gym. The night life might shut down earlier than Hollywood though. Let me know if you're thinking of buying a home here and I'll give you a tour!

It's only about a 30 minute ride so I'm sure they do! It's a much easier commute than from Orlando or Seminole County, which people do too.

For anyone considering moving here: it's not nearly as green or as clean these days. Everything from the Northern part of Stetson to the Walmart is a concrete fortress with only a handful of shabby and sick trees in sight. About half of the shops downtown were permanently closed after covid and for entertainment, there isn't much to do. I personally like Hontoon Island, Alexander Springs, and occasionally a local play at the Athens Theater, but other than that, there is pretty much nothing to do. A few pubs here and there but not much else. Also if you want a forest view with your house you might get one... But then the massive corporations will buy up all the land and tear it down to build more homes. It happened to me so I speak from experience. Some of the nicer neighborhoods are shown in this video and they are still quite nice but unless you're a millionaire, you won't easily buy one. The prices just keep going up and last time I checked, one was running for 1.5 million and another (plot only) was 7 million. If you want to visit only? Sure. Come down and we'll treat you to whatever we can and we're pretty friendly for the most part but if you're one of those people who throws garbage into our yards or lets your dog defecate without picking it up, you will get a stink eye and you will be judged (i have a personal annoyance with one guy in particular who keeps throwing trash out his window when driving by my house). Also we're a small-town community so word spreads like wild fire. DeLand High School is a big source of this, especially when there is a threat or some other kind of drama (big one i remember from school is a few seniors lighting a line of firecrackers on the main staircase, but the echo off the walls made it sound like gunfire. They all got in serious trouble for that). Recently it was threat that cause 2/3 of the students to skip school so the other 1/3 were dismissed after their first few classes and sent home. My point is, DeLand isnt perfect and I'm sad that people keep pretending it is. The increase in suburbs has almost destroyed local wildlife to the point where I miss having the bears and raccoons digging through my garbage at 2am. At least I could see them. Now i don't see them at all, and i can't say if they've all been killed, forcefully relocated, or fled deeper into the protected forests. No matter the answer, i don't like it. The increased human population is destroying everything that made this town beautiful. please do not move here.

Thanks for your comment. 1500 people move to Central Florida every week. Growth is a problem everywhere. I think Deland still has a lot to offer, and plenty of nice homes priced less than in areas further south. Have you watched our more recent Deland video? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIqUeZuribR3bNU

This is the tourist industry that prefers to exaggerate the pros and ignore the cons all over Florida. Common with every town and city in Florida. I'm a Miami native so trust me I know what you mean. With that said one thing about deland is even if you say there is not much to do there if you have a car your good because it's only 30 minutes from popular Daytona Beach and an hour from even more popular Orlando with its world famous theme parks amazing malls as. Well as one of the best night club scenes in the USA.
@pinkpantherkipz3965 Жыл бұрын
@@Billie-s2b I can agree to some extent. A car makes it easier to do things that are fun and Orlando is gorgeous. I completely agree. Daytona Beach these days is trashed. The only touristy section is one small stretch of road closest to the beach and none of it is particularly good. Cheap souvenir shops, bad restaurants, overpriced clothing stores, etc. The rest of the city looks like a slum. I temporarily worked for a dive shop there and the owner kept 2 loaded guns in his office in case someone tried to rob him and if he was out, he told me to use them if I needed to. It's not a particularly good place. On top of that, there are practically no trees lining the beach--just copy-pasted overpriced hotels, the sand is filled with trash, water is literally brown with pollution, and it was the shark attack capital of the world. Dunno if it still is but it's up there. Quite frankly, I look at tourism videos related to Daytona Beach and DeLand and I roll my eyes because it's never the truth and tricking people into thinking it's nicer than it is is just awful. DeLand is a nice place to live but it won't be nice for much longer if it continues to expand like it has been. They've destroyed the forests so thoroughly that I can't even hear birds chirping outside my window in the morning... and I live right at the edge of one...just crazy

That's like comparing steak to strawberries 🤣 that's like comparing Manhattan to Niagara falls 😂 that's a very urban beach side suburb of Miami with some of the tallest beach side skyscraper condos in the world and deland is a small town very distant rural suburb of Orlando. Hallendale is an urban latin cultured beach side city and deland is a rural American southern cultured small town the two are not comparable like 2 different planets 😂
