Have been an avide follower of your channel since my plans to move to Germany started taking shape early 2022. This video is very relevant, which is why whoever has asked, has done so. Let me share my experience when I arrived at Frankfurt in July 2022. I used Free Now to hire an XXL Taxi (Uber didn't accept my travel card or cash as payment methods). The taxi driver was hesitant to load my 6 suitcases and numerous pieces if hand baggage and said this taxi is for premium service. I requested him to accommodate us we were a family with 2 young girls and were new to the country. He reluctantly accepted us. Neither did I know German nor did he speak English, we could exchange our emotions though. The ride to the city cost 42 euros and I gave him a 50 (not to say I'm generous, but I was so appreciative that he understood my situation). At the end of the day, he was happy and so was I. Germans aren't as rigid as I'd thought, or at least not all are. Wish everyone a successful move to Germany!

For reference, a removal company quoted 850 euros for the delivery of a full europallet from Bologna to Bamberg, with a full load of 20 cartons. I ended up driving back with 3 cartons and leaving behind the stuff I didn't use anymore.

I lucked out with never having owned much, so when I moved here, it was 3 pieces of luggage and 1 backpack that had all my life in them. Took the regional that, thankfully, went from BER directly to the S-Bahn stop that's a 16-minute walk from my apartment, though that day, the luggage and the cobbled sidewalks made it take like 30 minutes. Was so awfully tired, but I did it!

Would love a video on shifting between german cities! Umzug companies can be so expensive :'( especially when you don't have any furniture, but still a sizeable amount of luggage. I think it's also super difficult when you haven't found a long-term appartment and can't ship your stuff to the new city. Would love to see if there are alternatives I missed!

Travelling to Germany with 5 bags in total. 3 checked in and 2 carry-on. I was not going to take a train from Frankfurt Airport to a small town in NRW called Rheda. I hired a like mini bus/van and paid €550 from Frankfurt Airport to Rheda. It was still a lot cheaper than trying to fly to Düsseldorf which is still over 1,5 hour to my end destination. At least the flight to Frankfurt was a direct one. It was a lot of luggage to shuffle around by myself and a good chose to travel by hired taxi although it was incredibly expensive to get there in the end.

Moved a week ago with my family to Berlín, 12 big suitcases. We had to reserve a taxi van in advance. Costed us 180 euros 😢

I moved to Munich alone (due to my companion getting covid before I arrived 😭) with 4 suitcases and got a Sixt chaffeur (120€) and booked a porter with the Munich airport (10€) to help me pull my suitcases from the conveyor belt.

An additional option one way car rental. You may take it at the airport and leave it at your destination. 😉

This video made me think of the different options, and I might combine shipping and travelling with luggage. There's this big like enormous suitcase I got myself recenly, which is literally half my height.😂I think I'll be best off shipping it. And for first hand necessities and documents I can have a gripsack and some hand bag. It's very important and different what you say about taxis outside of airports. Here, unless you land in Bulgaria and actually hear the name of the country for the first time, you don't look at those taxis lined up there.. nnope! (I mean really don't look, because drivers detect people who seem hesitant, walk out of their cars and start waving and inviting them.) Anyway, so I understand that in Germany airport taxis are just fine, with all regular price and counters? The storage units you mentioned are also for me to keep in mind. Very neat and important information! By the way back to the taxis, it was a very cool and funny moment when you suggested tipping the driver. 😂On one hand, of course I remember your video about tipping in Germany and Yvonne's correction created a nice easter egg, but aside from that I had to laugh because here in our slang language we can use the word which means "a tip" to refer to a taxi driver. 🤣 And happy Easter! 🐰

hahaha that's quite a funny unintended pun with "a tip" 🤣. Yes, airport taxis are fine with regular price and counters. Some even have a fixed price to drive you to the city center. They are all very well regulated, in my experience.

@@simplegermany Earlier today I actually had this funny experience, because I was travelling back to Plovdiv from a 30-ish km nearby small town. My location was a little far from the train station and I had luggage, so I took a taxi, told him I'm in a hurry to the station. He then said, "But you know, we can also drive intercity..." Yeah right.😂 But that's how they are - any occasion they can try.

Hello, Thank you for this video...!! Is it possible to do a video on shifting between two cities in Germany ? Or is there already a video on this topic...? I am planning to shift to another apartment...with a lot of luggage...

We will release a video on how to move within Germany soon. If it is only luggage you have, you could consider renting a car yourself (in case you have a driving license). If you have more items and furniture, you could hire a moving company, which we discuss in the upcoming video.

Thank you for the reply... Since I do not have a German driving license, I cannot rent a car and taking a taxi many times will be expensive... Will wait for the video...

Hmm i have traveled to PI with my mom and bro so we would have total 6x (50 lb) bags then 3 carry on and 3 bsck packs , we make sure ahead of time we hire a big van thst can fit all those bags plus us.. and take us to our destination. Cheaper in PI of course not sure if germany is cheap.. always good to have somebody you csn make friends with thst live in germany and they can help you accomodate a big vehicle and pick you up and you just pay when you get there 😂i do believe this only works on country like philippines though

Video is coming soon for moving within Germany :) For getting rid of bulky furniture you need to schedule a Spermüll pickup. You can check if your local trash collection company has an app by Googling 'müllabfuhr + your city'. If so, you can schedule an appointment there. For example for DUS, Awista has an app and I can schedule a pickup through their app in a minute.

why not rent a car?
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 7 ай бұрын
Also an option if you have a drivers license and you’re traveling within the same city. If you need to go to another city, just keep in mind that car rental companies might have hefty fees to return the car in another city or this service might not be available.
