The Jacksonville Metro area consists of 4 main Counties. The one the city of Jacksonville is in is Duval, Fernandina Beach is in Nassau (which is the one that borders Georgia),St. Augustine is in St. Johns (one of the 3 fastest growing Counties in the USA) and the fourth County south west of Jacksonville is Clay County which I think you missed which is a beautiful, low crime area along the St. Johns River. The only part with a high crime problem is parts of the north and the west side of the city of Jacksonville. But nothing like as bad as Miami. And people only go downtown for Football, baseball and the Arena and Amplitheater shows because the City leaders have failed for the last 30 years to provide anything else for people to do downtown and there are very few places to live downtown. It is not because of crime. The Riverside and San Marco areas across the river from downtown are vibrant areas with lots of shops, restaurants and beautiful neighborhoods with history. The main huge shopping and restaurant area in Jacksonville is the St. Johns Town Center, right next to the University of North Florida, which has thousands of condos, apartments and houses all less than 25 years old. It is a very multi-cultural area as well. This is the center of action in Jacksonville instead of downtown. You seemed to have missed that entire area.

Excellent presentation, Jose! I like this moving to different cities in Florida. I live in Atlantic Beach just east of Jacksonville. A very nice place. St. Augustine and Amelia Island are beautiful. They call Jacksonville and the rest of north Florida is considered by many, South Georgia. As it is said, the further north you go up in Florida, the more southern it gets (culturally speaking). Atlantic Beach is a nice, beautiful, and safe community, as well as Neptune and Jacksonville Beach.

Jax Beach is nice now. When I lived there 95 -01 it was different. Gentrification hadn't happened the Hill was still Really dangerous. Flashbangs, automatic weapon fire, and police helicopters circling that 12 square blocks every night. Jax Beach was where you went to party hard not drink in bars( of witch it had the best or worst depending on your outlook) hookers, Crack dealers/heads and heroin were everywhere from south 13 to 7th north. I live in Jacksonville Southside (the suburbs). It's pretty nice here with a lot of new amenities being built, as well as new housing starts. My neighborhood in the Baymeadows area is pretty quiet most of the time. The Towne Center mall is here with great shops and restaurants. Since Jacksonville is so huge area-wise, it really isn't fair to say "Jacksonville has lots of crime". Which part are you talking about? We only have less than 1,000,000 residents, so that is a relatively small number of people spread over a lot of land mass. I would also point out that we are a military town.

It seems everybody wants to consider Fernandina Beach as part of Jacksonville/Duval Cty. Well it is not. It happens to be in a county called Nassau, along with Yulee, Callahan, Hilliard & Bryceville. Our county, Nassau, is between Duval Cty, where Jax is, and Georgia. The St Marys River separates Nassau Cty & Georgia. Jax doesn't touch GA at all. Fernandina Beach is beautiful but it is not part of Duval Cty/Jax. Duval Cty sits between St Johns Cty & Nassau Cty. In case you were mistaken about Duval Cty/ Jacksonville's location.

I live in Jacksonville on the Northside near Edgewood and Commonwealth. I've also lived in the Arlington neighborhood. I go to the gas stations at 3am in the morning all the time. I've never felt unsafe, however I do have a conceal carry permit and carry my Smith and Wesson M&P 9MM all the time. I also have an AR-15 in the crib lol. I'd say you'll definitely get your fair share of beggars approaching you in front of stores. Alot of the crime I've seen are gang members killing each other. I'll agree: Jacksonville has the best food I've come across and I've lived in several states including Minnesota and Virginia. There are also some very nice areas of Jacksonville with great restaurants and shopping. Not to mention, you are just minutes away from the beach!

@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Fernandina Beach is not Jax Metro Area. It's an entirely different county. Your use of the terms "metro area" are not how most people use that. Metro is metropolis, or what would be considered the downtown area. When you look at a city or country map, many maps have blow outs of the smaller "metro"/ downtown area. The suburbs of Jacksonville are not even considered metro, let alone the surrounding areas in different counties you're trying to define as "metro".

A lot of the footage in this video is of Fernandina Beach, which is not Jacksonville. I don't think I saw any footage of Jacksonville's beaches Neptune, Atlantic & Jacksonville. And that route along the shore of A1A going south to St. Augustine is St. John's Country which again is not Jacksonville. And reading the comments it's astounding how many people have a distorted view of reality. Jacksonville's land mass is unique as the entire large county is also the city. So when you look at statistics such as crime compared to other cities, the stats don't paint a comparable picture when Jax is 10X more spread out. There is crime in Jacksonville, but you're more isolated from it because everything is so spread out. Example also is the public transit. We can't have "good" public transit because the area is so massive. You would need NY money to create a system like that. Jax doesn't have NY money.

You can't be talking shit about where ppl live, and think it's going to go over well. Like you said there is a crime problem in Jacksonville, but it's closely related to the low income areas. You can go to Southeast Jacksonville in the Town center and you see people smiling, sitting outside eating dinner with their families, people enjoying life. I respect dudes work but this video is Pure Fiction at best.

Moved here from NC two years ago and we love Jacksonville. This city is beautiful! I really wish you hadn't spent so much time talking about high crime and "murder capital" I just don't agree with that at all and I'm afraid you might scare people into not coming here. The crime is no more than anyplace else and it is very area related. You didn't even talk about the south end of town which to me is by far the best area of town (not including beaches). You also talked about so many investor owned properties. Yes in 2021 & 2022 a lot of investors bough ALL OVER THE SOUTHEAST but the biggest group moving to Jacksonville is Gen X and that's a fact. I'm a Realtor/Broker and I study these facts constantly. As to the BBQ, well, I'm a vinegar based gal and you can't find that anywhere here I'm sorry to say but they do a fine job with flavorful cooking of the meat itself around here. Lucky for me I do know how to make the vinegar sauce 😊

IMO St Augustine is the 1st landmass to be explored in the US. I think it gets mirky because the Spaniards left without developing it like in James town. The Spanish architecture is crazy beautiful in Augustine. I like Jville it has lots of nice surrounding retail stores that seem to be doing well. If you golf you can't beat Jville. The skyline is disappointing considering it's a major city in Fl. Orlando IMO has the best skyline in Fl. I give Jville 2 thumbs up. I only know of 2 good barbecue places in S. People say there aren’t job opportunities there so why are people flocking (other than the people I work with)? Go to Atlanta like everyone else lol. Oh and the east side of the saint johns river which I believe is considered south side, it’s pretty nice there. Maybe explore that section for the folks who are trying to steer clear of all this crime you speak of.

@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS My coworkers & myself would still be moving there for work regardless. I’m not a civilian employee. I’ve done my due diligence though to learn about the city and found that there’s opportunities in healthcare due to there being many medical facilities in the area and then of course the civilian jobs on the military bases. I think it would be strange to offer jobs to people who would have to relocate to have said job because typically the prospective employee would (or at least should) negotiate their salary to be compensated for their willingness to relocate and so why not pick from the qualified people who are already in the community as it would be cheaper to do so? So are you saying the inner city people are not being offered higher paying jobs due to discrimination or do you think this is more so an issue of them not being offered the positions because they aren’t qualified for them?

I live in Jacksonville. I moved here from south america at the beginning of this year. Things I like: maybe weather (I cant deal with very cold temperatures), and Jacksonville can be hot but not as hot as South Florida . and you are not far from the beach, you have lots of restaurants. you are 30 min from St Augustine which is a very beautiful and historical city. Things I dont like: its overdeveloped (just like all Florida I think), you dont have very exciting land scapes because its a really flat state. Also homeless people. And I think with Jacksonville especially its a very big city in measurements so sometimes you have to drive a lot and deal with traffic to get to a place. everything is so spread out, Its like lots of completely different districts together, i dont think it was well designed.. its hard to understand this city. If you go to downtown it looks like a ghost city, people go to work overthere and thats it. nobody will hang out there except the homeless. So the "heart of the city" is not specifically that... i love your channel, I just suscribed.

Especially for my situation right now I like living at the place I found near Oakleaf, I couldn’t say how safe it is but it’s not the worst area. Living without a (running) car temporarily it’s great where I am because I’m within an hour, hour and a half walk from almost everything I need and I can catch a bus on Blanding Boulevard to basically anywhere. I haven’t been able to fully gauge how safe it is but nothing happened to or around me in my time there.

I cannot agree with your assessment of Jacksonville. I have lived here since 1996. There are good and bad parts of any city. The good parts WAY out weigh the bad parts. Your focus and pictures showed a lot of the low income area of Jacksonville. You did not show the historic nor growing areas of Jacksonville. Yes downtown Jacksonville is lacking but that’s in part because there are so many other great areas of Jacksonville to go and visit. Jacksonville also has the largest urban park system in the country. I feel your assessment came with the preconception of crime crime crime and so that’s what you focused on. It’s the news headlines but not the real Jacksonville.

I love Jacksonville, Florida❤ I have lived here for 5 years and Jacksonville keeps getting better and better. After living in multiple areas in Jax I have figured it out. Like most large cities there are good areas and bad areas. Jax is a huge massive city land wise. I would say 40% of Jax is low income high, crime, and neglected "Bad" areas. These are near downtown on the Westside, Downtown on the eastside north of stadium, alot of east arlington, near St Nicholas... These areas are lower income or economically disadvantaged. Generally speaking the majority of the entire west side of jacksonville is lower income or lower middle class. Where is the best places to live then? If your family is making near or over 6 figures you would enjoy buying in a middle to upper middle class area you should consider Bartram, Communities in St Johns County, Mandarin, The Beaches Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Ponte vedra Beach, Generally anything East of 295 beltway toward the beach.

hi, I'm from Croatia (Europe), we're doing a USA roadtrip. I have to admit that of all the cities, Jacksonville disappointed us the most. Ghost town. A city of homeless people and weirdos. I believe there are beautiful people, but they are nowhere to be seen. In the first 15 minutes of walking around the city, we felt like we were in an apocalyptic movie. A city without culture, without any style. As a European who has seen a lot of the world, I can tell you that life here is very sad. The advantages are that the architectural city is beautiful, quite neat and elegant, but there are literally no people, no events, no socializing. I don't want to offend anyone, I'm just sharing my view and experience. maybe it will help someone

we also visited the beaches, that improved our impression a little. there we saw for the first time people with children on the street, smiling faces, people who don't talk to a trash can and poop in their pants while walking, with shit falling out of their pants (this is exactly what we experienced walking on the bridge in Jacksonville) . And the most important thing, for the first time we didn't feel threatened, because we weren't alone, we finally experienced normal people. Jacksonville left a strong impression on me, it's hard for me to describe it, a really sickening impression. The first day when we were walking around, there were no people anywhere, only homeless people and crazy people, we didn't want to risk returning to the apartment on foot, so we ordered an Uber. We waited for him at 7eleven because there were a bunch of weirdos in front. When the taxi driver was driving us, suddenly my cell phone started buzzing for an Amber Alert that someone had kidnapped the child. Later I just looked up what an Amber Alert is. All in all, I do not recommend Jacksonville. Now we are in Miami, which is a real renaissance, in terms of tourism.

Honestly downtown Jacksonville does suck. They are building a lot of apartments, grocery stores, and shopping but it still has a long way to go. A lot of homeless people downtown. I will say Jacksonville has of Croatians, Bosnians, and Serbians almost entirely located on the southside. Jacksonville is very suburban, so most people aren’t out walking. You will see a lot of cars on the road but no one on the streets. That’s how most of FL is with the exception of Miami and Ft Lauderdale areas. Did you get to stop by any of the Balkan Cafes in Jacksonville at least?

As a German living in Texas who has been around the block in Europe and the U.S. quite a few times , Florida isn't just all about Mickey Mouse , coconut palms and Miami. Florida is a big state you can't compare North Florida with South Florida . The same goes for northern and southern California that comes each with a different vibe and scenery. Jacksonville isn't a tourist city by any means but it provides locals job opportunities other than selling t-shirts and shells. Just like Germany isn't all about sausages and the alps. KZbin is a great tool for researching maybe you haven't done your research about Jax . Sorry to hear your disappointment. P.S. speaking about homeless people you haven't been to L.A. , Seattle and Portland yet. They're called tent cities for a reason but all major cities come with big city problems.

Jose, I been following you for a while buddy and love your work, but your perception of Jacksonville is wayyy left field my friend. Jacksonville is definitely the largest city in the United States by Size. Yes the Crime in Jacksonville is very much out of control. There are Organized Gangs in Jacksonville. Yes there are rappers like Youngen Ace and Foolio that make diss songs about young black youths that died due to gun violence. Yes its not safe to go to Gas Stations at Night. But there are some good things about Jacksonville. The Riverwalk downtown is being rebuilt as we speak. Jacksonville city leaders have gone to the City of Tampa to study how Tampa built their Riverwalk. City leaders are trying bring change to the city after being out of touch after all these years. What about the history of Jacksonville landing? What's being put in place of the landing? Jacksonville has some of the best restaurants that you'll find in the world Jose. All you gotta do is take a ride thru the (The town Center) on the South Side. Back to Crime, again Jacksonville is out of control with Crime. However if you look at the crime map of the Jacksonville Sheriff website going back in previous till today, you'll see that Jacksonville's most deadliest zip codes are 32208(Northside) that contains areas like Moncrief and Washington Heights. 32209 which has areas like Durkeville also Northside. However the entire Northside isn't bad. Jacksonville's Northside also contains a zip code called 32218 which covers the Jacksonville Airport. Very nice communities border the airport. Gone up further north up Max Leggett Parkway, you got the River City Shopping center, which has even more restaurants and shopping venues. Jacksonvilles Westside contains a zip code 32210 which has a well known strip known as 103rd Street. There's hoods off 103rd, but deeper down 103 there's beautiful secluded Subdivisions that you wouldn't even know existed. So again Jacksonville is bad, but its primarily 32208 32209 and 32210 zip codes. I mean it's so much stuff you missed friend, I could type all night. San Jose and Manderin are not trash areas. SAN Jose and Mandarin are Southside going towards the St John's River. GOING back Southeast there's Emerson Rd, Spring Park areas. During the day this area is dead. But at night it's like a totally different place, lots of criminal activity. You got Arlington area, that's another huge area that's hit and miss. You got the Beaches, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach. Atlantic Beach is a very beautiful part of Jacksonville that's never covered in no KZbinrs videos. The beaches are in Duval County but never covered because Jacksonville has such a bad name that people are afraid to put boots on the ground to show the good parts of the Jacksonville. Jacksonville no different than any other large city, you have goods and bad. I honestly think you should have consulted with somebody before you made this video my friend. I feel you need to scrap this one and remake it. You narrate the video from the point of view of someone that's trash the city. You're not even going thru the hoods at all. Moncrief, Soutel, Washington Heights, Durkeville, Lackawanna, Out East, By the Stadium, Norwood, Myrtle, Arlington just to name a few are hardcord but they don't cover the whole narrative of Jacksonville. One good thing about Jacksonville at least several people per week hit a million dollars on scratch offs. Jacksonville produces millionaires courtesy of FL lottery. You're Right, Jacksonville does have a heavy Ga influence. So much not covered in this video . Again I love your work, but honestly the narration isn't all that accurate at all here. Somebody needs to really get out there and put boots on the ground and show the Good and Bad sides of Jacksonville rather than riding down a few main roads and bridges saying it's the Hood. Some of the best people that you'll ever meet in your life are in these so called Really bad neighborhoods. Got to really back street these main roads in order to really get a scope on what's going on in the city of Jacksonville
