Hope you enjoy your time in NZ. As someone who's moved from the country I kinda miss NZ healthcare (as strange as it sounds). I moved to Japan and there's a severe lack of female doctors, and I've had issues with the 'old male' ones I have to deal with. I actually found out yesterday that one of the training institutes actually deducted points from female applicants because they don't want the health industry "swamped by females who'll take time off to give birth and create a shortage"... >.>
@maxlein1246
@maxlein1246 2 жыл бұрын
Not to forget the archaic way pregnancy is treated and the maternity ward is organized. Because “pregnancy is not a disease” you need to pay for births - unless there are medical complications, then it gets cheaper. Bananas. Plus, fathers have very few rights. After our first one was born, I (as the father) learnt I am a visitor “just like anyone else”. I was the only man to stay over night in hospital and was told I make the other women uncomfortable. Our second child was born during Covid and I was unable to see him until they released from hospital.

I would assume it's the same as Australia in some areas. You have the choice to have a baby in a public or private hospital. A lot of pre natal is done by midwifes , clinic visits, check ups etc. You can see your GP but a lot start visiting the clinic at the hospital where they give birth. A lot of midwifes are the ones that help with the birth even though I was high risk the doctor was only called in twice to 'check' on me as the midwife I had , had 20 years experience. The doc also came to do the stitches LOL. On the anti natal ward again a lot of midwifes looking after you I never saw a doctor again the staff (as there are male and female midwifes) are amazing!

We moved to NZ when 17 (about 14 years ago now) so I can understand the excitement and the unknown you and the family might be going through of course with covid can add more potential stress but I hope you enjoy it here. First year or 2 were the toughest for sure, homesick can definitely a struggle. But we all love our lives here so I hope you and the family will too. 🥰

Splendid! In addition to your professional advancement, I hope the kids will have a chance to learn and retain a bit of the Maori language. We moved to Japan when I was 2 and, according to my mother, I spoke Japanese as well as English (in other words, not well). But I lost it as soon as we moved back to the States in 1950 except for the few words we continued to use.

Welcome to NZ! I hope you have an amazing time here! ☺️ The medical system is lucky to have you! I'm an audiologist who moved to NZ during covid lockdown last year (my partner is a Kiwi, so we always planned to come back, but took a little longer than planned, although I still feel like we were really really lucky). As an audiologist, I am having to re-qualify, and also prove my current qualifications, so can sympathise on that front, but cannot imagine doing this with children as well. I live in Texas, but not in one of Texas’ major cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or Austin), and I feel the same. Getting a doctor here is a roll of the dice when it comes to so many things. Many don’t even think my very real crippling chronic condition (fibromyalgia) even exists because they refuse to look at up-to-date studies. Also, I’m jealous of Dr Jones’ family because I’ve always wanted to travel for work like this, lol. Especially to NZ.
