We moved to St. Albert from London, Ontario. We looked for home in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and found we were able to get the best value for our dollar here! And yes, under $375,000 for a detached bungalow. The safety and lovely neighbourhoods are so worth the property tax. I love the convenience of the 20 minute drive into Edmonton. The peacefulness and beauty of this small town and the X-country skiing here in St. Albert is beyond all dreams! SOOOO happy with our new home...even in -40C. We did buy that second car within a month of moving here! What you said about needing a car was true. However, if you have a great furnace and a reliable vehicle, you'll love it here.

Evan, as Americans are looking to move to Canada, especially Alberta due to the lower cost of living and housing in comparison to other parts of the country, you many want to talk about want it is like to live there; ie, what is cost of food, gasoline, taxes, medical, etc.

In my opinion Saint Albert is the best of the small communities surrounding Edmonton, by far. Tons of interesting history and character, tons of green space too - plus excellent restaurants!

I agree! Next video coming out is going to about that very topic :)

@@Evan_Cochlin That´s right, Sweden is a very beautiful country but we have experienced a lot of criminality, gangs conflicts + a bad economy in recent years. My wife and I thinkg that take this step will be the best for us and our kids. Good luck with the channel! J/

I'm thinking of visiting St. Albert in December, any recommendations for cheap accommodation?
@Evan_Cochlin Жыл бұрын
Depends what you're looking for but the St. Albert Inn and Best Western Plus are both good. Or, you could check availability on AirBNB if you'd like to stay in a house and get the more local experience.

Do you have any insight on the access to healthcare (doctors and specialists) in comparison to other provinces?
@Evan_Cochlin5 ай бұрын
To the best of my knowledge, it is comparable. As with most of Canada, the waiting lists can be quite long depending on a patient's needs and which specialists they need to see. However, the quality of healthcare in Alberta is high.

You mention property taxes are high but you get a lot with it (garbage pick up etc). We are relocating to St. Albert in the new year, and everyone has told us garbage and sewer etc are not included in property taxes and it is a separate bill. Can you confirm? Thanks!
@Evan_Cochlin Жыл бұрын
Great question, thank you for asking it! I misspoke on this point and gave the impression that garbage/recycling pickup is included in property taxes. This service is not included. Garbage/Recycling pickup is billed with your city utilities along with your water bill. The average cost for Garbage, Recycling, and Compost bin pickup is about $35/per month TOTAL if you get the large (240 Litre) bins. I apologize for the confusion! The compost depot for yard waste, leaves and branches is indeed included as well as the recycling depot where you can dispose of cardboard, plastics, old electronics, used engine oil etc.
