Debit cards have the same scheme protection as credit cards (assuming you used Visa or Mastercard), in some areas credit cards have extra legal protection, but I don't know if that would apply in your case. It doesn't really mater, it sounds like you have a clear case for a chargeback so contact your bank ASAP as there are time limits to claim.

Kit MacLean that’s only in the US. We call cards like that credit cards too. In the Netherlands most people use actual debit cards that are Maestro, not Visa or Mastercard.

You said pesto? Pesto mostly isn't vegan. Pesto is made from cheese, which comes from milk, so it comes from an cow. Even as the mozzarella :)
