I have a quick story to share about that church. Our parents had taken us three boys back to Ayutla (their home towm) from where we lived in SF, CA to live in the town for three months. This was Spring 1976. I was eight at the time. My brother, one year younger, and I were heading back to the house and walking on the sidewalk near the church. I looked inside the garden and saw three boys our age beating up one other kid. They were in the garden just to the right of that first locked gate. I look to my brother and say "lets help the guy out." He didnt want to get involved initially. But I told him it wasnt right for three on one. So, I grab him and take him with me. I called out those kids and challenged them over the group beat down. They told me it wasnt any of my business. So I asked the kid who was getting beat up which one he wanted to fight. He picked one of the kids. I said to the others that it was going to be a one on one. And if they jump in both me and my bro will jump in on them. So the two kids started fighting and the one I had backed up started getting the upper hand. So the other two boys jumped in to help their friend. I jump in and so does my brother. And the three of us started hurting them and the three took off running. I asked the guy who got jumped where he lived. My brother and I walked him home to provide cover. Upon arriving at his home, he introduced us to his mother and told her that we were from El Norte. She asked about our family. Shockingly, she informed us that my father's side of the family was related to her side by grandparents who were siblings. The kid jumped up and hugged us both and yelled, "we're cousins!" true story. Small town of 10k people at the time.
