MOVO VXR10 PRO shotgun microphone review - Good Sound or Weird Noises?

Is this a good mic or are there some funny noises coming from it? Would you want it for vlogging and documentary videography? Is it any good for studio recording or sound effects? And why don't I recommend using it with an iPhone? Watch and find out!

Ah, thx for explaining that noise! I was wondering what the heck! 😅 I have the older Movo that I use for my Osmo Action & it really helps! I can hook it up to a cable in my van attached to my visor, with windows down & I don't get wind noises! That impresses me. I also bought the Osmo Action 3 & well, I tend to keep each cameras equipment in their own bags or I'll forget to grab needed items! (Ever take a camera out & realize that you forgot to put an SD card back in?). I think I'll order the upgraded Movo mic for the Action 3. Thx for your extensive review! What a great hiking trail too!

Gaffer tape is what they use to keep the cable banging against the mic, or the pole or anything and making that noise. Velcro cable ties would work too

Heh. Yeah it really took me by surprise, how hard it is to get that mic into the mount. Like, every time!

I was also getting a thumping sound and it took a while before I realized it was the autofocus.

Did you mean the mic was picking up the sound of your camera's autofocus?

@@MatthewHaines Yes. It was making a thumping sound. When I record with no autofocus it's fine. It might be unique to my camera. I have a Canon 80D. Thanks for the video. It was informative and entertaining. I like your style.

@@MatthewHaines I didn't even try without the mic. My eyes aren't so good. So manual focus is not possible. I have to stay still when I talk. mostly I'm going to use it to shoot my desk and I can turn off the autofocus. I guess you didn't notice that. Must be my old canon.

@SusanCliftonArtist I’ve used it on a manual focus lens on my dslr or on a Sony zv1, which is a silent-focusing camera. I didn’t notice any noise. I think any mic is going to pick up the same noise, which is why I was curious about whether the built-in mic was doing the same. That’s a shame though.

To me this sounds better than the non-pro considerably. I know some people prefer that one, maybe it's just that big presence peak at the top end that's fooling my brain, but the pro sounds really nicer.

Not sure if you or anyone would know this but if I’m using my iPhone on .5, will the mic be in view? 🤔

I can't say for sure as my phone is older. It's going to depend on how far your phone mount puts the mic away from the phone. If your mount clamps the phone on the width like most do (instead of the length or some other way). you can always scoot your phone so the lens is further away from the mic. You're going to just have to try it!

@@MatthewHaines thank you so much for answering. Yes I watched the video. I have the same mic (plugged into my Sony ze10) and when I play my audio back on my computer, it just doesn’t sound good. I hear tons of weird static and my Audio is no where near as crisp as yours.

@@palomadelmar is this the Sony ZV-E10? I have some things you should check. First, plug some headphones into the camera if you have some, and listen to your recordings that way. Make sure it’s not something to do with your computer. Also, how does the audio sound with the mic compared to recording with the camera’s built-in mic? Is the noise background noise or does it sound like electrical noise or some other defect? Also, I recently released a video on background noise. Watch that and see if it helps.
