Great video! I also use the gator blades. I have to break out the pressure washer too (if I mow when it's wet). Cleaning the bottom of the mower deck should be a regular maintenance thing anyway. I mean, it's nice to keep watch over the business end of the machine, so you can catch anything that might be outta whack. I have made a ritual out of using an electric leaf blower to clean my mower after every use. Accumulation of debris on the equipment could hinder air flow across the cooling system, harbor moisture, which in turn, could cause the belt and other parts to fail prematurely (not to mention rust metal parts). I like to carefully clean out the air box and air filter every time too. Those air filters aren't cheap and the engine needs to breathe. Thanks again for the video, God bless Tim and family! :)

Hey Tim! I have a 1023e with a rotary cutter. While researching tractors and implements, I was really impressed with the Kodiak line of rotary cutters. They seem to be very well built and fairly priced. You have probably seen them if you have ever seen a Mahindra branded cutter because they build them for Mahindra. With that said, I ended up buying the Frontier RC2048 when I bought the tractor because I received a discount from the dealer because I bought a package deal with multiple implements when I bought the tractor, and I was able to put it on the 0% financing along with the tractor. I have been completely satisfied with the Frontier, but if I were purchasing one as a stand alone transaction, I would be very tempted to get the Kodiak.

I don't use anything under the mower deck I usually just scrape it out a couple times a season. End of season the deck is cleaned real well and then I brush motor oil under the whole deck. Never have any problems with rust so all is good. Take care and God Bless.

I always have trouble with the 'final cleanup' in practice. By the time I'm finally finished mulching leaves, it is already freezing weather, so, I've packed the power washer away for the winter. Gonna have to find a way to deal with this.

Tim, When me and my buddy were working on something and breaking bolts loose, his comment was that he needed a Blue Bell Energy break. AND when you bust a knuckle you jump around and say GOCH OH MIGHTY! That term came from a Hispanic friend back in the 70's. That was a chore and the soured dead grass is stinky stinky.

glue stuff on the thread is Loctite it keeps the nut from backing off. red Loctite you almost can't get it off unless you use heat. blue Loctite is something you can get off a little more easy than the red.

That packed grass in the deck is typical for any mulching deck regardless of blades. it's just the way it is during springtime in the Midwest. I have the same thing on my toro grandstand and my 30" push mower. Cleaning the deck is just a chore you have to keep up with!

A little trick when removing/installing springs, use a string and wrap it around or tie it to a screwdriver or rod to use as a handle.. very easy to control the spring when installing/removng! you would fold the string in half so you have a loop at the end you hook on the spring.

I agree on the Gator Blades. I believe they do such a good job mulching, it turns the grass in to paste. Seen that right off. Then I would not pay the ransom price on Amazon, I went back to JD mulch blades and never looked back. The reason I came looking for this video. I blew a belt on my 60" and the idler arm and pulley and it went into the drive over bracket and damaged the pulley. And to add to it, I had 10 minutes to get to the JD dealership before they closed. Now to figure out how to get the huge spring off without killing (and put back on) and then go to the dealership in the morning.

I took my BX deck off yesterday and did my routine maintenance. I use factory blades and still had tons of grass caked under the deck. Taking the deck off was a chore. I think my next one will be a drive over deck.

Tim a very simple solution is spraying canola oil on the deck cause in word war 2 the Canadian and US armies used canola oil in the tank tracks that did the amphibious assault on the beaches so all you will need a air parts sprayer with the syphon tub it will also prevent rust on the deck and it is safe for the environment and those mower decks are assembled with lock tight

I have the same caking on my JD blades and I don't have a mulch kit. Yes the belt is a pain, had to do mine the first year due to unseen objects in my grass. I use the mower slick spray. It does seem to work, but not long term. I've just had to resort to knowing it will cake up and it will be a pain to clean. I have the Rotary mower an older JD unit. But I want a flail mower. Much safer and works a lot like a rototiller but can chew up some stuff much better.

Regarding cutting down the corn stokes , you may want to try the rotor tiller , we have rotary cutter , they are bulky and don`t have the space to keep inside , we just take off the PTO shaft and keep the shaft inside the shed , if you want a cutter try a flail cutter , they take about the same space of a tiller. But all this has to go through the Chief Financial Officer

Mulching blades are best used when the property is dry. John Deere mulching blades have a two-step cutting surface, and the gator blade has the wing foil high lift section notched to aid in mulching the grass.

My self propelled push mower has a hose connection on the top of the deck to connect a hose. Then I just turn the hose on and start it and it gets it all clean. It's really cool . Maybe when the lawn starts growing again I will share a video.

the original belts on our X360 on the 48 in deck and snowblower broke within 2 years. 2nd belts (that the dealer just gave to us) are so far performing better and looking stronger

Gear wrenches are the best for speed and ease of use and are a standard in every toolbox in aviation. The only problem with the non reversible type is in certain close quarter situations, they can get stuck as you tighten the fastener down causing the clearance to close up. In certain applications you need to think in advance or you can cause a real headache.....

Tractor Time with Tim - I prefer the more compact size and the durability when encountering unseen objects such as rocks when compared to something like a brush hog. I also think that they are safer from a possible projectile perspective.

Better than a brush hog yes, better than a rear finish mower no. The downside to flail mowers can be the sharpening depending on the number of blades that need maintenance, it can be time consuming. However the design really does help prevent projectiles. I also prefer the belt drive flail mowers over the gear drive, the belts are the slip point so you do not need the expense of a slip clutch but that's me.

Ya I have the jd mulch blades with the mulch kit and I have not had any issues with grass being stuck on the deck like that. I thought that double sided belt would be a lot more actually. Probably in Canada it is like 200.00 lol

Spray your mower drck with WD40. The grass will still stick but makes it real easy to wash off. Spray before each mowing. Wash off after each mowing. So much better.

Thanks Tim. I had heard of the new Frontier rear grooming decks ( GM11 series) and I was wondering if you knew anyone with previous use of these. They class them as finishing mowers for lawns, but I do understand they roll on full deck support wheels rather than mid mounts using frame suspension. I still get a lot of scalping with my current mid mount, but I do have a very uneven lawn. Maybe time for top soil dressing?

i was wachting one of your older video and when you are lefting with the front loader and it starts to lift the tractor and you have the backhoe you could extend it out and it would add more weight so it wont lift the tractor off the ground

To cut corn stuck i use the tiller .i open the door on the tiller lift the tiller about 8 inches go backwards and after tiller the land and it does a good job. Try it next time. ???

Wow that belt is a pain to change, hope you don't have to do that one too often. Sadly thought it just doesn't seem like belts hold up near as well as they used to. I would have to replace the belt on my 72" zero turn every other year pretty well, it wasn't near as difficult to change as yours though. Hope the belt on the kioti CK2510 belly mower isn't that time consuming when the time comes to change it.

Good Video Tim. You mentioned the rear cutter, do you think it would mow as well as the mid mount deck? I am finding it hard to level the mid mount in the Spring and wonder if switching to a rear deck makes sense. Oh, no, it won't mow nearly as well as a mid-mount deck. The rear 'Rotary Cutter' is made for tall weeds, and saplings. It is not a 'finish mower'.

I purchased a 1025R with the 60" mower, backhoe and loader... and love it. I'm still a bit mystified has to what fluids it requires. Other than engine oil, does it takes hydraulic fluid everywhere else or is the transmission another exception?

Would you by chance know how to get all the burnt up rubber belt off the mower deck? I'm guessing the chip rock had bounced up onto the deck and got under the idler arm pulley and made a huge mess. Gonna get a can of that paint too.

Tim I could of told you. Never use gator blades with a mulch kit. They are not meant to be used with mulch kits. Only use the wavy blades that come with the kit. Gator do a very good job on some mowers. It depends on the baffling of your deck. Also mulching all the time in the spring will cause a little more build up because of the spring conditions just part of it. Tell the finance committee thats really not a bad price for the belt. The belts for my commercial mowers are 85 to a 100 a pop and I have to replace them once to twice a year. Ouch!!! We also keep spares in the truck at all times nothing worse than getting half way through a yard and a belt brake. Di you look anymore into the sod staples for your web site? How about a decision on the tiller. Don't hesitate if I can ever help or answer any questions for you.

I know this is an old video, but you don’t need to remove drive over ramps. There is room, at least on my 60D to just push the belt over the pulleys. You do have to remove the drive assembly completely, and the idler spring. But, if you do remove the, it gives you the chance to clean out all that junk.

Go to your local sawmill supplier and he will have just about every size belt. My grasshopper deck belt is about $40.00 each and I can get them at the sawmill supply for $10.00 each

Thanks for video, I was curious about those drive over decks . Seems like a lot of hassle to change a deck belt, I was noticing , that deck does not seem as "beefy" as the 7 iron deck on My Ztrack , Is it the same heavy weight 7 gauge steel ? I am in the middle of purchasing either a John deere 2 r compact with a MMM and FEL ,, or a Kubota B2650, These videos help me make a wiser decision seeing maintenance . ! I love the idea of aito connect MMM but not sure it is worth that hassle . Decisions , Decisions . ! I do know Kubota does not offer that feature , And I do know the Kubota Deck is not as heavy a seck as the John Deere 7 iron I am accustomed to , I am curious now , so I will look at the cost of deck belts for both machines . I mow approx 7 acres here So I think my belt wear would be more than a lot of folks , I usually would replace a belt on the z track twice a season , Question How many hours of mowing do you have on the gearbox on your MMM? And here is you an ol country boys tip,,, "Ya dont use a grass mower to chop corn stalks !"" lol , Use a bush hog , or flail cutter ! But It seems you do not have that much of sweet corn stalks to cut , think I would just knock the few you got down and churn them up with a roto tiller .

Don't let the competition talk you out of the auto-connect. Also, this belt won't need to be replaced since it runs in a straight line. I don't think you will see much belt wear. I only needed to replace it because of abuse (as I mentioned, and you re-iterated).

I don't like the "Gator" blades ,, I use JD predator blades and don't close off the shoot and they work perfectly.. no grass build up under the deck at all.. and those Predator blades chop up the grass awesomely .. you can't see any clipping at all...

so basically it was the fault of the loose nut behind the wheel.. tim I know this is worse than swear words but napa has great outdoor equipment belts that last far better than jd and a 1/3 of the price. I use to work for the local garbage company that has acers of yard on there houses and they had the john deer zero turn diesel and they would go through a belt in one season mowing twice a week. yes twice a week they had sprinklers over the whole green lawn areas where there were four huge mansions and a horse barn that was like a manards department store, 2 1/2 acres of fence alone 50 horse stalls inside so money was no object. one year john deer was out at the time so for giggles I called napa who we dealt with on a daily basis to keep all the garbage equipment running they had the belt and it outlasted the john deer belt by two seasons the john deer belts never broke but the blades would start to slip and on the grass build up we use to spray fluid film underneath the deck and it cut down on grass build up big time. even sprayed it on the front lift garbage trucks for there front shields over the cabs of the truck and even the dumpster juices washed right off it also some how impregnates the metal to help against rust out. or so they say lol

philip young While you're at NAPA you can pick up a small bottle of blue Loc Tite or their equivalent. That's the "glue" you see on the threads to keep the bolts and nuts tight. Blue allows for disassembly. Don't get the red kind. It's stronger and you can break the bolt before it comes loose.

philip young Thanks, I will check NAPA out. Only average 2 years on the JD belts. I think NAPA carries Gates brand. I do purchase all my vehicular serpentine belts from them because of the quality of Gates.

i bleve there called there outdoor equpment belts it worked on my bosses zero turn as well as on my cub cadet 147 hydrodrive. i used it on the cub for both moter belts the main blades as well as thr pto belt as you may know goes from the deck and turnes into a figuar eight to the pto vertical shaft in the front going through two pullies. good luck

That is normal. Inspect the belt itself. Is it frayed? If not, you are fine.

+Cody Dillon Cody, we are careful to cut at dry time of day. However, spring grass is so thick and has so much moisture in it that it is impossible to avoid this.

So don't talk crap about the blades because if your mulching the grass it needs to be dry ,where as if the grass was wet it would build up around the sides of the mower deck and clog, that's where common sense kicks in clearly u haven't got any.
