You would not believe how common this problem is, and how quick it is to fix. Wonder how many people took their tractor to a shop and spend a ton of money- and that's all they fixed.
Hope it helps at least one person out there, and this was more than worth it.
Thanks for watching, be sure to SUBSCRIBE!, and check my channel for more videos.

Had this issue today. Thought my belt was stretched out and toast. Watched this video and then realized that I watched this exact same video last year when I had the same problem. Fixed it again. See you again next year when I can’t figure out why the mower doesn’t want to go. I guess us old guys with bad memories are good for the view count, if nothing else. Hahaha.

You’re the man. Same issue… in fact because of the belt not fully engaging, it also jumped off the center pulley. Thanks for posting!!!

Awesome thanks. My problem is my Arien 42 has a hard time turning over fast enough to start so hoping it just needs a valve adjustment and not the compression release in my 18.5 hp Briggs that I see breaks a lot. Has bad design and if I knew about this before I bought it I never would have purchased a lawn tractor with a Briggs.

You sir are a Savior! Not "THE" Savior but nonetheless. Was about to replace the belt nothing looked wrong with it. Yes though I have a Craftsman, most of these hunks of junk are built the same way prob by the same plant in China so yea my problem was as you described! Nice!

Thanks Brian, had a similar problem - my fault though - after I had replaced the clutch assembly, turned out I had one idler pulley with the belt fitted the wrong side - dropped the deck, used two long screwdrivers to lever the belt correct side against the spring tensioner (inside pulley, both sides), refitted deck - 'Bob's your Uncle' - jobs done !!

You just saved me and a customer a ton of time and money. I was asked to go over his tractor typical oil change, fuel filter, air filter, sharpen blades etc. When I picked it up to put on the trailer he said that it had been going really slow the last month or so. I told him I'd look at it. Watched your video, grabbed my air gun and viola, fixed!

Yes this insight helped me although it wasn't grass but a loose part. I have a rear engine cub cadet and under the foot pedal is a small plastic access door that could sit in the palm of your hand. This fell out one day and and I didn't notice at first. I thought it had gone into the grass and lost. However after a few cuts of my rider acting up, it had fallen down into this void and was blocking my pedal from fully lowering. Fished it out, issue fixed. Its a 6 speed plus park and I didn't have park or 1st gear during a few cuts and the pedal was not moving the into the same "rest" positions. Then in researching, I hit this video and light bulb went off. Eureka. Thank you sir. 👏

I just pulled my mower into the shade to cool off because after I stopped to pick up golf balls littering the yard, it seemed to have half the power up hills even though the tires weren’t spinning and the engine wasn’t dogging down. I figured grass was packed in there, but this wasn’t going to be the first spot I checked.. until now.

Thank you Brian for posting this video. I've been working on my riding lawnmower for days trying to fix the lack of speed issue. I was getting depressed thinking it was a transmission issue, which would cost more than its worth to fix. After watching this video i cleaned out the brake/clutch peddle and that solved the issue. You're the man!

Funny you mentioned this because it actually says in the manual on the maintenance page about cleaning this out when I was going through it 10 minutes after watching your video. But still didn't fix my issue So I pulled the transaxle out replace the oil, and refilled, replaced the drive belt (cracked), replaced the spring to the tension rod but still does the same thing. My next thing to do is pulling the transaxle out again, and rebuild it as the belt is super tight but not wanting to go up hill after mowing a 1/2 acre. When I first starts it runs perfectly. I have the LGT2654 bought it used from Lowes 9 years ago with 100 hrs already on it. I was looking a new mowers today but I dont like the fueltank right next to the engine under the hood especially not in this central Florida summer heat. Thank you for showing this, sadly didnt fix my issue.

Thanks - I even had changed the drive belt (incredible hassle) and it still was slow as hell up hills. Watched your video. I chocked the back wheels and jacked up the front with the deck all the way down. Was able to reach in there with a chisel and push/pull out a big thick pad of old grass and dust. As good as new now! Didn't have to remove the mower deck.
