I am working on this riding mower, it's a Snapper LT 200 powered with a Briggs 22 HP engine. The problem with this mower is that it will suddenly stop running and then it will start right up. To diagnose why this mower randomly shuts off I would use a multimeter but I did the trouble shooting up to this point without any specific tools.

they make small tools for the wire pins also, usually worth the time savings

Question: If a bad gas cap is creating a vacuum lock in the tank, could that not make the engine stall, even if you see gas in the filter near the carb? The vacuum could keep the gas from flowing, even when the fuel line is full. At least, I can envision that. However, I don't know how the engine dying and starting right back up could help the tank vacuum lock for however long it runs until it dies again. This is just me thinking about it. A vehicle mechanic KZbinr is always saying a gas cap can cause fuel flow issues, but I don't know how that relates to tractor mowers. If it dies again quickly, it could still be the gas cap affecting the fuel flow rate. I have a tool to close those pin tabs somewhere, and I think they push the pin out, too, but at least they keep them closed. However, they come in different diameters, so Mine may be too small for that connector. I have a collection of various diameters of heat shrink tubing, so one of them might be able to close the tabs and keep them closed. You really need a third hand to do it with those tweezers (and I have some just like that); one hand to pinch the tweezers, one to hold the connector and a third to pull the wire. The pinched solid wire trick was a great idea! *NOTE:* Before I reinsert the pins, I take an X-Acto blade and pry them out just a bit to be sure they catch again. A razor blade or anything sharp and thin enough will work, or maybe a sharp knife, depending on how flattened they are. You stopped the video before you found and fixed the issue. Please do another one and, if you get stumped, pull the gas cap and see if that does it. Good luck!

Thank you for this detailed comment. It has several good tips. As far as you question about fuel in the filter with the gas cap causing a vapor lock, I am not sure but would have to say it is possible. When this mower shut down I was able to start it right up without issue. I am """assuming""" it is either a safety switch or a wire that is grounding out while driving. My lawn has some shall we say not so smooth riding areas and it cut out mostly in that area. I will let you know when I find out what is causing this. Stay well, Joe Z

@@JOEZEP54 Another thing to compress the pin tabs might be a short length of stripped wire insulation. Try to find an insulated wire in a wire gauge of the same or close diameter of the pin. If one ID is too small and another too big, maybe drill out the tighter one. Good luck finding the intermittent short, if that's what it is. If it's an electrical issue, it could be a nicked wire insulation touching ground (which you are hunting, but it could be any one of them), corroded or rusted pins in connectors, ground wire ring terminals that are rusted, loose nuts or screws on grounding terminals, shorting wires in a bundle (and signal or voltage) and things like that, and maybe the ignition key switch. It could also be one or more of the safety switches not making a good connection.

Good tip "" stripped wire insulation"". Now that I have it out I will look for a piece of scrap wire for the next time. Electrical problems can be some of the easiest but more often than not I find them to be a challenge. @@100vg
