Damn nice video! It's nice to see how new mowers still use the same technique as 40 years ago! We mow with an old PZ Drummower, and it's almost the same, exept from the rust.
@thefunkyfarmer10 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We still have an old PZ in the barn, they are very good mowers

Nice kit for silage, the drum mower makes a nice job, I notice it is really an old style mower as you have to swing it into position, my mower is the same but it is 8 years old!! I didn't think they made mowers like that anymore until I found out my local contractor has one too.
@thefunkyfarmer10 жыл бұрын
Yes I don't think they sell many like it now. I like it because its a simple tried and tested design

Gidda Richard , You`ve got a nice looking farm over there. Nice to see hedges, and trees. A lot of farmers down here in NZ have gone big and ripped out every thing...for large senter pivot irrigation units. cheers Roy.

+Roy Crosswell thats a shame Roy, i love having the trees and hedges on the farm. A lot of trees and hedges in the UK have been taken out in the past although the hedgerows are protected now

+thefunkyfarmer A friend of mine has kept all his hedges also. The farm looks great lots of wild birds live in them, really nice to see .Good shelter for stock all year round. Cheers. Roy.

thefunkyfarmer have you ever though about getting a go-pro? It would be much easier for filming as you can clip it on to the window of a tractor or the roof. It would save you from holding it and managing to do certain tasks. We've made a few videos on silaging ,attached it to the header or the trailer and filmed from in the cab. It collects great quality videos! But your videos are great!

A Fahr mower Adam. since i filmed this video last year i have got rid of this mower as it was nothing but trouble
@ThePilotPenguin19 жыл бұрын
thefunkyfarmer drum mowers aren't the best your better off it a disc mower we have a fransguard 5'6" and its a great yoke for cutting the main crop or just topping we have a board on the back to make lines but when doing hay it doesn't really matter about the lines from cutting because your shaking it out anyway and silage we get the local contractor to do that but we plan on getting out own baler and wrapper
@ThePilotPenguin19 жыл бұрын
thefunkyfarmer also that tractor is a tad big for the drum mower

After your experience with the mower do u think there was a problem with the transport hitch from day one? A bit of advice, Kuhn disc mowers are excellent. My uncle has one. He and i find it good and it leaves a nice clean cut.
@thefunkyfarmer10 жыл бұрын
I think you are right, the transport hitch just wasn't up to the job.

I'm thinking of replacing my swather I use for cutting buckwheat. Will the drum mower be gentle on the stim and not knock off the seed?
@dand7327 жыл бұрын
It's bad for a drum mower to be lifted and dropped. We had a pz 165 lasted 40 years never lifted when mowing only when moving into position. A farm down the road use to lift it like you and it split in half between the two drums . Only got a new akpil mower this year as pz finally gave in .

Good looking set up , but the mower looks a bit small how wide is it ?
@thefunkyfarmer10 жыл бұрын
It's 8 foot wide and replaces one that is 5 foot 6. Any bigger mower wouldn't be cost effective for us to buy for the size of our farm
@slimG208210 жыл бұрын
Oh of 8ft is not bad we had a 7 ft then we had a 10 but last one we got is a 9 ft New Idea 5209 I mow about 7 mph a bit slower than the old 10 ft where I would mow 10-15 mph
@jimmypear1110 жыл бұрын

Why in the U.K /Europe do you guys stop and reverse to do a headland while mowing? All that i can see is bringing 4.5 to 7.5 ton of mass to a complete stop, reversing it, stopping it, starting into the cut again from stopped, or straight from reverse, and during that maneuver i see the mower is cutting 'air'. Its tough on clutches & brakes-(yes wet clutches burn out also) consumes more fuel, and is burning time completing that maneuver. And tough on mower universal joints working acute angles lifting the hitch while running. It appears to be a complicated way of executing a headland? What's the reasoning?
@thefunkyfarmer9 жыл бұрын
+coalfirediesel well maybe its because we have smaller fields and hedgerows to consider
@stuwilson9787 жыл бұрын
coalfirediesel what's the alternative? Doing rows up and down? But you would have to do skip rows to avoid doing a 3 point turn?
