The year was 1994. I lived just outside of North Little Rock on 3 acres. I had a bunch of tall grass to mow and nothing to do it with but a weed eater. Fortunately for me, I lived next to a Farmer who saw me cutting grass with the weed eater. The next thing I know he shows up with his tractor and a brush hog and says I'll give you 15 minutes of my time. Really glad he did, because we found 3 Rattle Snakes that he ran over and what he did in 15 minutes would have taken me all day and possibly a trip to the hospital.

Its definitely a beast . I bought a used 1 for 3k and 2 yrs ago and its awesome. I just mowed 3 acres 4 foot tall of mixed mess tangled up , now looks like a actual lawn instead of a commercial lot . I definitely put mine in some Jungles .TORO is the way 2 go .

And when the grass is this tall, gotta blow the junk away from the tall grass so it doesn’t get even thicker and bog down the mower. And if you aren’t trying to stripe something, back and forth has no benefit.

Alpha Grass is #1 but a close 2nd is Barenburg RPR. I planted a small section under my tree this spring and I am really happy with it. Just a thought for what to plant in the trees.

I have 2 types of grass...Bermuda in the front, fescue in the back, because of a huge pecan tree with shade. You do need some sun though. Much better results after getting the tree trimmed and thinned out letting in more sun.

I've got turf type tall fescue growing in my heavily shaded front yard just outside Atlanta, GA. Its possible and probably your best choice for that area under the trees. Get some seed from Pete at GCI Turf and make it a showpiece.

Tip for your shaded area...Ryegrass will do just fine. I’m in California and hit temps in the 100s. Ryegrass does just fine as long as it gets late day shade. I prefer ryegrass over fescue because it germinates in the heat easier than fescue but it does need more water.

I had TTTF and I really liked the dark color and the way it stripes I also had KBG and Rye but didnt stripe as well now my Bermuda only stripes if cut a little longer then 1 in but no comparison to the other types as for stripes just my experience.

Tall rescue works well in bermuda country (shaded areas). I have tall fescue under a large tree in back yard. Mostly bermuda due to down here in Tucson Az we're he get 110+ in the summer and rescue does well.
