It helped me unclog the keyboard, it had a key that sounded harder than the others, I cleaned the key and put vaceline on it and it was perfect, thank you and God bless you

Thank you so much for this video! A few keys on my MOXF were noisy but I was kinda scared to just open that rather expensive instrument up without any knowledge of what I would see inside. This is extremely helpful, thankfully replacing some keys isn't that hard after all!

Thanks a lot Scott ! In my case I had hooked a white key with my wedding ring while sliding my hand on 'sharp dressed man'. It had jumped up without breaking, so I had to put it back in its slot. I managed greatly in a couple hours thanks to your video. Next time I play in public... I'll be single ; -)
@johnholler59467 жыл бұрын
I play "single" all the time too, not only because of the likelihood of the problem you had, but also because I noticed strange pock marks showing up on the black keys of my low end. After further investigation, I discovered that it was from my wedding ring hitting them and leaving little dents. Just remember to keep your ring(s) some place you won't walk off without them (oops).

Thanks a lot for your video! I have also fixed my MOXF8 today in which one of the keys (the second highest E note) did not work. I managed to order the spare part at Syntaur with the IC board over the higher register and the rubber feet overlying. Following your video I am able to replace the board and the key works again.

sir am using moxf6.. my keyboards all octave. A. nd D# KEYS SOUND louder thn other...when I play piano soung is (ting ting).... when the room tempereture is below 22 degre or lower the problem is autometicly solved.. but if it over 28 or more the problem is again start..are this is for humidity problem! what can I do!
@AAnilSahin5 жыл бұрын
The flat ribbon cable (and its slot), as you can see at 5:11 in this video, has dirt gathered in it. Also the electronic board under the rubber band (see 07:33 in the video) must be dirty. With humidity they get muddy and create short-circuits, when you press the keys. Open the keyboard carefully and try to clean those areas with contact spray.

Thank you for this excellent video. I have 5 keys that have stopped working in the last octave up top so I took my MoXf8 apart following your guide. I cleaned the rubber contacts and the circuit with rubbing alcohol then gently drew over the circuit with a pencil, which I saw in another video. Re-assembled everything but still the 5 keys are dead (no sound). Any ideas?

Thanks for the video! It makes me less afraid to open mine up... but my problem is not a broken key, but rather a broken/dirty/misbehaving key sensor - one key is *way* more sensitive, randomly, than the others. Any chance I'll be able to replace that? Or maybe just clean it out?
@JONBRION227 жыл бұрын
the problem is probably due to the rubbery gray contact strip that you can see on the green board under the keys when he takes them out . You can take that off and clean or replace . But I think this is better done by a real repair guy .
@RobCranfill7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I will take that advice. :-) I've got about a 25% success rate with my repair projects, don't think I wanna do that to my moXF8!
@RobCranfill7 жыл бұрын
Does this mean that the contacts for this beast are open to the air?! And to environmental dust and crud?! If so I guess I better start covering my keyboard. (I had a Yamaha PS120 for like 15 years in the same space with no problems....)
@johnholler59467 жыл бұрын
I didn't replace that strip in this video (obviously). I will give you the short answer and then (if you care) you can read the long answer that follows: It might not necessarily be dust (though that is the most frequent culprit). If you are experiencing this problem (I would go ahead and replace that little grey strip. They aren't real expensive and it's better than opening this lovely design up again. LONG ANSWER: the way your velocity control works is there are two sensors under the key that are very close together, one on top of the other (or some reasonable facsimile thereof) . As you press the key down, the computer detects the difference in time it takes for those two sensors to close and that translates into a reading of the velocity... the faster the time, the harder you must have hit the key. These switches might get dust or any other debris between them or simply short out so that the moment you press the key down, it closes both switches at exactly the same moment (which translates to King Kong playing on your keyboard). You might be able to blow it out, but I wouldn't go through the hassle... just replace it and sleep well at night.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I just might give it a go. There's a local repair shop that wants $120 for the first hour of repair, and they won't get to if for 4-6 weeks. :-(

If u are on the first piano voice... The grand piano setting....what if as you play the scale up higher the sound of the scale goes out of tune slightly? Do keyboards go out of tune once in a while? Is it fixable? Have you had it happen on the moxf8?
@michaelbauers88006 жыл бұрын
Digital synths can't go out of tune, like analog synths can. I admit though, I can't think of anything that would go wrong based on your explanation. If there was some issue that caused the wrong note to play, I could sort of see how that could happen.

Yes, the process would be the same. The chassis is similar. The moxf6 is the shorter version of the f8. Everything should be the same or at least very similar.

whaouu !! this keyboard seems to be very fragile !! I expected to buy a Moxf8, but I'm not sure that it's a good idea. I had a motif 8 classic 10 years ago, and I had a lot of problems whith broken keys... seems that it could be worst with this moxf8 keybed.. too bad.

Greetings! Can you tell me how I could replace the felt strip in my MOXF8? I am pretty sure it is getting worn out mostly in the middle octaves of the keyboard. I managed to replace one octave of keys thanks to your video, so I'm reasonably sure I could tackle replacing the felt unless it's a real hard procedure. Thanks in advance!

Nice video, thank you...maybe you know what has to be fixed to get rid of noisy keys? some keys became noisy on my MOXF8 - I think it happened because of intensive usage. Thank you in advance
@ScottLovettFFM7 жыл бұрын
Hey Arik, Short Answer: There isn't anything that can be done. Long Answer: If there is no abnormal lateral movement of the keys, there isn't much to do about it. My MoXF8 has been noisy since I bought it. When you buy weighted keys, there will usually be more noise because of the mechanisms inside that make the weight. It's just the nature of the beast with weighted keys.
@arikgreen627 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, thank you for your reply. I just want to tell you - not all keys only some of them became noisy because of heavy usage, e.. like 2 central actives white keys and I thought there is a stripe inside to be replaced like on some other Yamaha pianos. Does MOXF-8 have this stripe or something similar like this? The noise comes when key rebounds. Thank you
@johnholler59467 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a felt strip inside that catches the metal "hammer" when it returns to the resting position. As with all felt, the more you beat it, the harder it becomes and, therefore, the less noise reducing. I've never tried replacing it.

Damn. What a complicated mess. I just bought a MOXF8 after feeling limited by the MO8 I've owned for about 6 years. My MO8 has some major squeaky key issues and I fear running into the same problem down the road with the MOXF8. But I suppose there's just no way around it. Just makes it irritating when trying to record voice and keys at the same time. Oh well.
