You know it's good when you just listen to it and shivers run up your spine. Some incredible singing talent here.

That's the most captivating Don Alfonso I've ever heard and seen. Such clean intonation, such consistency of voice across the whole range.

Wonderful music. Thank you very much. I've always thought Alfonso a ghoul and if any guys needed a sharp lesson it was these two. The music alone was worth all the fuss..

if you have stuff from Zürich, do you happen to have Simon Boccanegra with Tezier from there? would be cool to see :) thanks!
@librettosinenglish40324 ай бұрын
At this moment, no video of that particular performance seems to be available. I'll keep an eye out for it, as that performance appears to be the best with Tézier as Boccanegra (The Paris Opera production had awful direction and staging. In the 2019 Genoa performance, Yeo's singing of Amerila bothered me a lot.)

@@librettosinenglish4032 thanks a lot! yeah I watched the paris version and some of the singing was really good but the staging was horrendous xD really appreciate it if you happen to find it and post it :)

I love Cosi. this one is OK but a bit flat and emotionless which wrecks it for me. The men are not attractive enough to make it believable that they could et away with what they do (both look and act like Jack Black). Although the voices are individually reasonably good they don't seem to blend too well together hampering the musical effect.. The staging doesn't follow the music with it all being a bit 'hammy' and 'like a pantomime. The silly ending is meaningless compared to the complexities of the situation they all find themselves in which can provide some dramatic tension, but is swapped for a non existing (libretto wise) and pointless poisoning. Mozarts da Ponte operas, in my opinion, should really be played straight as everything needed is in there between the libretto and the music, it just needs intelligent handling which was obviously lacking here.

Do you think the overturned breakfast tray was intentional? It looked accidental.

The one at 38:40? The one that is already balanced precariously? The one that she walks straight into and doesn't stop? The one for which there are perfectly choreographed cleaning motions for Despina at 40:25? Yes, I think it was intentional.

Bien chanté mais quel dommage la mise en scène ! Et cette fin horrible !!!! Pourtant quel sublime opéra. Mais autant l'écouter sans le voir, plutôt que dénaturé ainsi.

Poisoned? Not in the vocal score I have. And the two male lovers with that wet long hair? - who could romantically fall for those two?

Schreckliche Inszenierung, wieso müssen dort alle auf Zwang etwas tun?. Man wird doch ganz von der Musik abgelenkt.
@waltermayr3398 ай бұрын
@albertorodriguez39272 ай бұрын
@@waltermayr339 I thought the same and was a little distraught when I didn't see anyone in the comments talking about how overly comical it is. It takes away from the natural humor found within it. I agree with the both of you
