The first time I played this concerto I was 14 and with a pianist not an orchestra. It truly is as much a joy to play as is sounds and as Jorg makes it look. I never made it to play with an orchestra as severe illness stole my future in music away. I cried when I watched this. Just brilliant.

Aren't these melodies amazing for their currency? Could you imagine what the clarinet soloist was like during Mozart's time, whether he was happy with the orchestra's interpretation? And I wonder what Wolfie would think of the sound of a modern production. But the truly amazing thing is the timelessness of melody!

Whatever the case, I'm sure Mozart would be extremely proud of Jörg Widmann.

Yeah I think our beloved Wolfie was happy enough to write this work for his dear friend Anton Stadler who was claimed to be the most talented clarinetist by that time. So in a way his skill inspired the great genius composer and we can’t thank both of them enough, especially Mozart for leaving us such a dear gift. This work can be such a joy and a tear jerker simultaneously makes one constantly wonder what was actually on his mind when he was composing it.

To an amateur clarinet player myself, Widmann is the greatest of all time. He just brings such a unique interpretation to every piece that he performs. And he always, ALWAYS brings the energy. I struggle with many of the more "lauded" clarinetists as I find most of them play very straight and proper with little inflection. Too perfect and too clean yields boring results. For me, clarinet playing needs to have character, grit, and verve to be effective.

Klarinettenkonzert. Mozart schrieb nur eines ? Wenn ja, welches ? Ist es - Concerto for clarinet and orchestra in A major, K.622 ?
