From those beautiful hands, with their long, slender and graceful fingers--as graceful and elegant as a swan--came this elegant and graceful playing of Mozart. "Sublime" is becoming a hackneyed and sometimes almost meaningless word, but suffice it to say that just listening to Haskil's Mozart is like experiencing a bit of heaven on earth.

I get so tired of people saying her playing is delicate, like a butterfly, etc....her playing is full of color, sometimes delicate, sometimes like a forceful wind. This is a great artist who can, and should not be, pigeonholed in any manner.

I just listened to Clifford Curzon´s refined and most nuanced Mozart playing [Sonata in C minor], a revelation I have to say, so beautiful. Then I heard Clara Haskil and I asked myself, why are you disappointed? Not Sir Clifford´s range of dynamics, not his musical fantasy and the appropriately differentiated touch. I came to the conclusion that she does not need to present herself that way because she is Clara Haskil and I remembered that she has been canonised! Her wonderful art, what joy!!

Thank you very much for this post. I'm a big fan of Haskil's Mozart, and I didn't know about this recording, which I'm now enjoying immensely. Yet Evan Dickerson, writing at musicweb-international about this performance of the F major, says, "As heard on this disc, Haskil’s playing sounds uncharacteristically lumpy and at odds with Mozart’s intentions." Which just goes to show how subjective artistic evaluation can be. I must say I don't know what he can possibly be talking about.
