How this symphony was composed in about 4 days, is beyond my comprehension.

Love it!!! I totally second phbarnes. Mackerras really knows how to keep tempo like no other HIP conductor. It really does make a massive difference. Mozart was known for his strict sense of tempo, so when I hear the likes of gifted conductor such as Rene Jacobs muck around with it too much, it pisses me off. Another thing that I just melt over is Mackerras's ability to bring out such clarity to the often neglected woodwinds. It adds soo much to the music. RIP Mackerras.

It is fantastically precise playing, and infused with Mackerras touches or better yet, elements, my favourite of which is the fact that there is no delay/rubato/change of pace, however brief they may be, as you find in other interpretations, even Marriner/St. Martin. The man had an inbuilt metronome. Wonderful legacy.

7:44 GOOD LORD. And if the old story is true, Mr. Mozart wrote this in 4 -5 days WHILE traveling.
