Derek Han. I would like to write a few words about this very refined pianist who interprets the concerts here magnificently! Born in the United States to Chinese parents, in 1977 he won the international competition in Athens. After which he carried out an intense concert and recording activity. Although he also successfully carried out a professional activity in the banking and financial field, he continued to cultivate his great passion for music. He passed away in 2021 at just 63 years old due to complications related to Covid 19. I and all music lovers are infinitely grateful to him for having left us this extraordinary legacy.

Thank you for your comments. An unexpected and rare appreciation of the world community other than those with English as their mother-tongue in your kind words... By the way, my favorite in this list is the II. Andante part of 21th piano concerto (Elvira Madigan).

Classical music is often referred to as the universal language, and for good reason. Its emotive power transcends linguistic and cultural barriers, communicating directly with the human spirit. Whether you're in a concert hall in Vienna, a living room in Tokyo, or a cafe in New York, the language of classical music speaks to people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of unity and shared human experience.

I'm a devout Wagnerite. But a steady diet of Wagner is eccentric and fattening, not to mention perhaps a trifle loud and bombastic to others around you.. But my love for Mozart is infinitive. I'll take him any time, morning noon or night.

Mozart certainly would feel vastly honored and enchanted perceiving u taking him at any time. I am exceedingly fond of him as well albeit my love for him wouldn't go so far as yours. As priming coat for theatre performances though his deeds are being used by my theatre circle what we all highly recommend for these purposes.

I perform many piano concerts of several composers of that era & Beethoven seems to be the most popular. But in comparison - Mozart wrote (21) operas; Beethoven wrote (1). Mozart wrote so much instrumentation for All instruments in the orchestra (including.flute; harp; oboe + bassoon) only trumpet he didn't like. He also knew (13) languages of which he wrote half to music. Beethoven only knew German+ some Italian + English. More to say here but the point is clear

Mozarts 2nd movements from his piano concertos are some of his most ahead of his time pieces. While 1sts are very “classical period” in your face, some of the middle movements are absolutely stepping into romanticism. So good

Growing up at the base of the Rocky Mountains I spent hours and hours in the forest and nearby lakes. The wind whispering through the pine boughs always made me catch my breath and stand still. It made me smile from the inside out and from head to toe. On many an occasion I would sit near a fire with the embers crackling and popping. Often with a mug cradled in my hands filled to brimming with cocoa or another warm beverage to chase the chill from my fingertips. In a world chaos laden these are the moments I hold in my mind when life becomes loud and less than peaceful. My thinking spot in the woods is always just a thought away. Just like this music now and the imagery of the fire that accompanies it. Is there really anything more magic? I think not.

that reminds me of a vacation near Sergeac, France. There was an archeological dig below Hotel Castel Merle where I was staying. I went down to the dig at dusk. It was a little grove that was absolutely still except, every 15 or 20 seconds, there was this trill of a single bird. The wind was so still that I could hear, ever so slightly, a hush.

I have been recuperating from eye surgery and listening to Baroque and Medieval music. I then thought I would take a listen to Mozart. HOLY SMOKE!!! The guy was a genius! It is like listening to a storm of notes and beautiful sounds rushing at you all at once. He has layers of musical themes working at the same time. I can see why Leonard Bernstein said Mozart was a musical genius that comes along once every 1,000 years.

So wasn't Beethoven and Franz Schubert which composed much and then was drowned at the age of 31! 🤦‍♀️😡👿 No telling what else this genius would have produced had he lived longer!!! 💁‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️ 🎼🎶 Your Daily Beethoven (and friends) 😉 Schubert composed the song „Der Wanderer“ (The Wanderer) in 1816, when he was about 19 years old. That same year, Beethoven had returned from his tour of European capitals, and would begin composition of his first Symphony the following year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYbbm5SOndp3mJI Der Wanderer Ich komme vom Gebirge her, Es dampft das Tal, es braust das Meer. The Wanderer I come down from the mountains The valley is steaming, the sea roars. I wander silent, little glad, And always my sigh demands: where? The sun here seems so cold, The flowers faded, life old, And what they say sounds hollow; I am a stranger everywhere. Where are you, my beloved land? Sought for, dreamed of, and never known! That land so green with hope, That land where my roses bloom, Where my friends walkl, Where my dead are resurrected, The land where my language is spoken, Oh, land, where are you? I wander silent, little glad, And always my sigh demands: where? A ghostly whisper replies, “There, where you are not, there is happiness!"

@@rogernichols1124 I have to agree with you on that. The repeated 7-note motif gets me every time. Long ago I read an essay on the Piano Concertos -- the author spoke of how the second movements were a direct view into the soul of Mozart. From that one would infer that Mozart had a deep understanding of what it meant to be sad. Not a uniquely sad life, but definitely we can hear that Mozart was able to evoke it beautifully.

I never cease to admire this music. It is formally perfect, packed with inspired melodies, crystal clear in its orchestral textures (Beethoven, please note!) and covers every human emotion. I adore this great man and his legacy to the world of music.

“Beethoven, please note”? Qual é o teu problema, homem? Abre os teus ouvidos!
@rogernichols1124
@rogernichols1124 Жыл бұрын
@antoniosilva7083 It Isn't MY problem, it's BEETHOVEN'S! Beethoven's musical textures are unnecessarily dense at times, particularly in some of his piano sonatas and, for example, in the much praised 9th symphony, in which he thumps and thumps and thumps to the end, rather like a child unable to get what he wants who makes a loud noise to assert himself. Yes, I know his deafness had affected his composition and this heavy-duty Sturm und Drang stuff can be partly attributed to that. In his piano music, much of which is perfectly formed and beautifully articulated, he is over-fond of a bass figuration so far down that the harmonic clarity is impaired and the beauty of the music suffers. This is never the case with Mozart, whose music soars to sublime heights without resorting to melodramatic gesture but achieves perfection always with clear textures, refined lines and economic language.
@antoniosilva7083
@antoniosilva7083 Жыл бұрын
@@rogernichols1124 I like too much bass figuration. Some deaf people like Beethoven and myself (in some level and since a few years ago) can hear bass better than the usual. Besides, Mozart’s piano was quite different. No doubt, for me Mozart and Beethoven are two different men, living in different time, so I understand their music differently. And I love both.

Treasured works, beautifully rendered. No matter how often heard, or interpreted by other great players, it is a delight to find a performance that seems to bring out almost a new quality in these concertos. To my ear, it is a delicacy & a near-ethereal force that I associate with Mozart at his finest. Here, I can somehow imagine Han, Freeman & the Philharmonia being encouraged by the composer himself to "...play it in this manner - how nice it will be!" Pardon my enchantment... :)

Mozart's piano concertos are beautiful, but their emotional tone is so one-dimensional. But that lack of depth is the limitation of the classical period of music in general.
@michaeldavidrubin3964
@michaeldavidrubin3964 3 жыл бұрын
@@stephenphillips4984 Ha! Mozart merely pretty? Nonsense, Stephen - with respect, you miss his emotional depth & varied mood altogether. Every composer (or painter or poet) has his/her sounds, brushwork or phrasing, to result in an identifiable style; entire periods show the same normative features; which, in turn, are the frame of reference for the artist. No one transcends his/her culture. As an architect, I assure you most people judge a building by its decorative exterior, & never walk inside, much less study its structure, systems, or reasons for being. So, we need to, in a sense, take for granted the stylistic tropes, & listen deeper. Personally, I'm not even a "Mozart guy;" my Desert Island choice (aren't such comparisons stupid?) would probably be Corelli, or Stravinsky, for what it's worth. Nevertheless, can we guess that Wolfgang would invite you, or me, inside? :)

Heaven for me is listening to piano Concerto No. 1, in the time 10:34-10:58. This version has a beautiful ending; more mesmerizing and is a beautiful interpretation from other artists. Mozart was a God given musician and each one of us has his own heaven to celebrate. I have many and this is as touching to my soul as the ending music in the Elīna Garanča Dmitri Hvorostovsky 'La ci darem la mano'
