Here’s a few topics I’d love to see covered from your engineering perspective. - Differences between Beiker, Exocet, Mach, Barbarossa, Thinair, etc. - Moth sails and rigging evolution - canting rigs, deck sweeper, etc. - all things foils - Hard vs soft wings - Upgrading older boats with new kit to stay competitive. Really enjoyed all your insight throughout the Cup....this was really interesting when you started talking about Ben...it was almost as if you were reluctant to talk about the team mentality within Ineos and you were the naughty schoolboys ! Ben is a fantastic sailor without any doubt but his biggest successes were solo and he could use his greatest attributes...... but within teams it is so different and in the airline world we have been teaching team skills for many years after realising that any breakdown in a team approach could lead to incidents/accidents or read that across to sailing as by not achieving your goals. It was always fascinating to me to watch great teams, average teams and poor teams perform in simulators and the resulting performances. The individual pilots were often very good as individuals but interaction with other personality types led to team breakdowns. The good news is that you can teach this stuff but to be receptive to it you must be willing to listen, accept feedback and act upon it which isn’t always easy with differing personality types.......... spending millions on boats is great but you need to invest heavily in people and their performances...... thanks again for your ‘chats’........

Thank's Mozzy (and guys) for supplying a supreme sailing analysis Regarding the courses, there are so many inovative courses nowdays why not use them? for instance, why not sail a slalom race? or have a mark on the downwind you have to make a 360 around this will also make the design more versatile and help provide interesting racing at different conditions. Remember that the differences between courses are a critical factor in F1

Drive through penalty is a good idea Rob. As everyone else has said, best technical review of any of the channels. No favours to Ineos either (!). On the subject of going out of bounds, a boat going out of bounds should have to re-enter the course at a maximum only as far around the course as the point they exited the course. This would preclude the option, in the case of an upwind leg, of tacking back onto the course with pretty much no disadvantage. It would require a gybe around. Vice versa for a downwind leg.
@murraybirdsall50483 жыл бұрын
Hey Mozzie Great insight and evaluation of the AC downunder. Even though I’m old enough to be a traditional displacement race enthusiast and thought the cats were too radical a change I’m lucky to be a New Zealander and managed to be out on the water to watch these boats fly around the course in spectacular fashion. Man they move when they’re fly down to the bottom mark straight at you then gybe away! I think if Covid hadn’t affected the proposed World Series then the 3 defenders and of course team NZ would have had more time to learn how to sail these machines and would have probably created a closer series. Auckland summer light winds didn’t unleash these monsters, imagine what the racing would have been like in the upper range winds! I’d love to see a World Series for the next AC start in Cowes but to defend it outside NZ would be an injustice and make it just too commercial! Yes I’m a kiwi so never thought team NZ would lose but maybe round two in the AC75s? Thanks and I Ok forward to yr further insights for the next round! Cheers Ladysmith. You and the lads provided a well thought out and great technical explanation for these new designs! Even predicted the eventual winner way back, so great work and thanks for your efforts although maybe without the lock downs you might have been too busy with sailing yourself!!
