MP4 Import Issues in DaVinci Resolve 16

*UPDATE 4/2020*
Many people have been saying that since the last few updates "VLC" is not working for them. Many have replied back that" Handbrake" converter did work for them now though! Hope it helps! Thanks to everyone commenting and helping with this change!
This is quick video about MP4 file import issues in Davinci Resolve 16. I could not find much helpful information about my MP4 files not showing up in my media list. Some help mentions using VLC player which is awesome to convert files but after several frustrating hours I still only had video and no audio...

This was an absolutely perfect fix. Thank you! The one thing I would add, for dummies like me, on the older version of VLC that I have, when I write the name of the file to save, I have to actually save it with the ending .mp4 or the file will just appear as a vlc file and I won't be able to bring it into Davinci. Took me a little to figure that out as I'm new to both softwares. But figured it out and good to go. THANK YOU!

Man I searched for a few hours, read multiple forums and watched a bunch of YT videos trying to figure out why I couldn't get audio with my imported videos on Resolve. I'm new to the program and trying to learn how to edit videos. FINALLY your video had the fix that I needed (Adding the AAC in the conversion). I really wish Resolve would add support for importing .MOV files without having to convert them (and properly) in another program.

Thanks! I'll also add that having certain symbols in your filename can prevent an import so make sure your filename is something simple, just letters and/or numbers.

I was the same way, I was used to iMovie and I messed up and lost alot of time by not saving often as well. I heard Davinci was bad about just shutting down on you and losing your work! Boy is it ever! I lost hours of work before started making sure I hit that Ctrl+S very often! Save and save often. I am starting to get used to it finally! It's taken a few months and about 6 videos to get the hang of it!

After trying this and every single fix, nothing worked for me... until i changed the folder's name to something more simple, without dots or especial symbols, and that finally fixed the problem! It's a really simple thing that you need to check, but i didn't find it anywhere, so i'm putting it here hoping it helps someone.

Thank you very much for this. It helped me greatly. The best tutorial on the subject for sure. Still, I'm really discouraged with Resolve because I had to spend a couple days looking on the internet just to upload files. And then audio files were also an issue lol. It killed my workflow.

It has taken me a few weeks, I am finally getting about as good with it as I was with imovie. It was quite a learning curve. It is very different but extremely powerful to be free. My very first video with it took about 6 hrs for a 12min video. I still have a hard time trimming or blade tool. I will mess up big at times, thank God for Ctrl-Z!

I was wondering the same thing about my voice for sure. For years and years I said I would never have my voice on video. I too appreciate this video, but seemingly I am the only one in the world that finds it preposterous that Resolve is incapable of simply importing the file as is. This adds steps to my workflow, so much so that a return to Adobe is being considered.

Yes it is very frustrating. I am very impressed with the free version and the capabilities way beyond my abilities by far, but yet I had to spend hours trying to figure out why certian files would not show up at all! I simply came to Resolve from iMovie and never had a import issue that I remember. The good thing is the latest version release seems to fix some of these issues for me. Hopefully before long this will be a non issue!
