I was very skeptical about this camera, decided to pull the trigger and return it in the worst case scenario. I fell in love with it on day 1 and never thought about returning it. I think any modern camera within the same price tag is able to produce similar results, but with the Leica, it’s about the whole experience. It not only produces great images with great colors, the body feels great, bright and sharp viewfinder, the menus are by far the easiest to use, the Leica Fotos app is hands down the best between every manufacturer, the lens coupled with this camera is a “creme de la creme” in my opinion. Very expensive camera, maybe because of the very few competitors for this category, however it kind of makes sense once you use it.

Thank you for the lovely review and the enthusiasm. Very delightful. I'm still waiting for my Q3 in Canada. :( I have to say that i noticed that many reviews complain about the price of the camera, yet one is getting an outstanding lens AND a superb camera body with quality specs. It should be noted that if one compares this camera to perhaps a Sony of comparable quality (perhaps the Sony a7CR body?) and adds two lenses to that cost (to make it a "non-fixed lens" camera!) the price would be about the same as the Q3. So this price comparison is a bit of a straw man argument. In any event, making photos is what it is all about and if one enjoys the process and the equipment to do that, then it's a win! Thanks again for the great review!

I bought one (40th birthday present to myself), and what I like about it is that it reminds me of shooting my Nikon FA film camera, but without the pain, cost, and waiting required for processing film. I also like how little post processing is required on the files. I was more of a 35mm fan, but I am now used to 28mm and I am finding that is is maybe even more flexible for getting shadows etc. into the frame. It's not going to replace my main camera system, but it definitely has a place in my kit for now.

@ab18511 ай бұрын
@@mpbcom the nice thing about 28mm (though I hear it's technically 24-26mm) is that you can do the 35mm digital crop and have a rangefinder-like setup where you see what's outside of the frame. When shooting RAW, you can easily undo this crop and use it to reframe your image, which is what I do with my Q2. The amount of flexibility it affords is great. Hoping for a Q4 with a f1.4 lens for even better bokeh and low-light performance!

Nice review. I have had mine since August. It replaced my Q2 mainly because of the better low light performance, thought he tilt screen was a small factor. It is indeed wonderful, as was the Q2. I do have to say it has its quirks compared to the Q2, some of which have been rectified by firmware updates but more need to be taken care of. The Q2 was mature, while the Q3 is still a teenager. Not sure why changing sensor brands has made for such a challenge, but I can overlook most of the problems as they do not effect my shooting style. So, for me it was a good trade upward and also for my friend/neighbor who bought my Q2 and is loving it. The Q's have been my first and second Leica digital cameras, though I was a long time Leica R shooter (R4 and R8) with film and am glad to back to the joy of shooting Leica after years of Canon and Nikon digitals. Leica's make photography fun again. You can shoot and not worry about results or complicated settings. Enjoy......

I picked mine up in November. A bit unsure whether I would really like 28mm fixed and I own 5 other Leicas so it has a lot of competition. I love this camera. A few gripes. Battery life isn’t great. I need 2 or 3 batteries for a full day shooting street. I had some issues with short delays when switching to review shots. That seems to have gone away with the last firmware update. If you do a firmware upgrade and don’t save your user profile you go back to factory defaults. That’s a pain. But would I buy it again - definitely. I am not a brand junkie. I own Leica, Canon, Fuji ❤ and Olympus cameras and use horses for courses. This is a fabulous camera. Whether it is worth the price is your call

A very pleasing review, but you did make me nervous jiggling the camera around without the neck strap being around your neck. Watch that zipper on your jacket too, that's a great way of scratching the LCD of any camera. I have a Q3 and the match between the sensor and the quality of the lens is sensational. I too love the build quality. Switching to manual focus is astonishing. The smoothness and quality of the focus ring is better than any lens on any camera that I've owned. One of the advantages of the fixed lens is it stops further expenditure on a clutch of lenses!

I loved her enthusiasm about the Q3, but I felt like some of the basic features lost to all the touchy-feely stuff. For example, she never mentions that you can change the resolution from 60 to something like 2 MP. The Q1 only shoots in 24Mp, which I'm perfectly happy with, but maybe it would be nice to be able to shoot a 60Mp photo once in a while. Going in the other direction 60Mp is a real memory hog so it requires a really fast computer with mountains of memory and storage, so the user may decide that shooting at 24 Mp is better most of the time. They have the choice. Another feature is that the pictures can be cropped using crop lines. While the full size frame comes over in raw, a jpeg file of the cropped picture also gets processed and saved. Another topic not covered is the menu and layout of the shooting options. I don't know what they are on the Q3 but it would be nice to learn a bit about them from the review. The camera has a very good macro capability. The Q series is designed so you can use it as a $6000 point-and-shoot, or you can turn all the automatic stuff off and shoot it manually to such an extent that you'll wonder where to put the film. Ironically, it's a great camera on which to learn about cameras and photography... or not. I bought the Q1 new when the Q2 came out and I love the feel of the camera. I hope this is useful.

Price is no way justified because like almost all specs has better than them in the market, like I can get either cheaper or more expensive one but I get what I pay for but leica is like the luxurious brand of photography, there is no big demand but they still have to get an income, moreover they sell you the feeling and the name, not new for western companies, not all of them can handle that philosophy forever because at the end you should meet with the needs, anyway it is still a good camera, maybe it is the best compact somehow nowadays, the lenses are amazing too, and the best thing is the image quality which actually the photographer experience play a big role in it. I wish the fourth version at least comes out with something that really competes with others and make that price understandable.

These cameras are a huge game changer and they will help you become a better photographer. I have just received my Q3 and have owned a Q2 monochrom for some years now. These cameras are without a doubt my all-time favorites, an absolute joy to use, with image quality that blows you away, and a superb build quality that no other brand offers. My Canon R5 and it's pro range lenses, Fuji Xpro 3 and it's pro lenses or the pro-Nikons I have owned in the past do not remotely compare to the joy of the user experience of these cameras or the image quality they produce. If you write these cameras off because you think they are just 'rich kids toys', or are 'unnecessary'....you're doing yourself no favors and are missing out on something truly amazing.

if you dont own Q yet, 28mm is your main play ground and if you can afford this pricy camera i think answer could be 'yes'. but if you have any of Q (Q, Q2, Q-P) already my asnwer will be 'no'!!! And besides these days you can get the used Q around 2000USD only and if it have a faulty EVF so need to be replaced it could be even more cheaper like 1500USD (every Q have faulty EVF and its like walking timebomb but its just a EVF issue not will damage your output so if you dont mind about EVF its farily good deal :)). Q have 24MP but its good enough for photography and because its 'lower' MP you could get more stable images and less noise on your output.

There are plenty of similar cameras targeted at the same market Fujifilm X100V, Sony RX1R II, Ricoh GR3, etc. but it's not like they sell as well as the Leica Q (i.e. part of the reason it is a success is because it is a Leica). The problem is that it is a niche market and the data is not there to support the sales volumes required to get to a low price (Leicas cost a lot because they are not made in china, and they are not bulk produced like other cameras). Realistically though... it's because most camera companies think that someone who is worried that much about the price is just going to buy a prime lens for their interchangeable lens system (and actually they want you to buy into interchangeable lens systems because you will end up buying more lenses, and get tied to their system).
@bondgabebond490711 ай бұрын
@@MeAMuse Those Leica's most likely are using Sony or other company's sensors. Leica is just raking in the dough with a name. I'd take a Sony or Nikon and maybe a Fujifilm over that Leica. For the same amount of money, I can have a great camera body (Sony A6100 on the cheap to A7CR which is not cheap) and a number of 3rd party lenses. I'd buy a Leica just to impress people and pickup my Sony a6700 for shooting photos. Influencers are really missing the point. Good pictures depend on our eye and observation of our environment. Sometimes we need to be quick or take our blessed time. Thinking a brand is going to make a better photographer is just fooling him/herself.
