I love the MPC1000 a lot, but i've never really shown how to make music on an mpc. So i figured why not crank out another #compactcreations and make some house music on the mpc 1000!
Used 1000s here - reverb.grsm.io/mpc1k (don't pay more than $600 for one, don't buy blue ones)

Just wanted to drop a quick note on MPC 1000 Pricing. I have a link to see some used prices here - reverb.grsm.io/mpc1k And as much as i LOVE the 1000s don't pay more than $600 for one.. They're incredible, but i don't know, you might not like the "old school"-ness of it. ALSO don't buy the blue one. They have an older pad setup where each pad is a pain to replace if needed. The Black mpc 1000 has a single sheet of sensors which is cheaper and easier, and lasts longer in some cases.

Ricky Tinez the blue ones that have a black back plate are good tho - those were made in a different plant and have the sheet version of the pads. I have a black mpc1k with a silver back plate - it had the individual pads when I got it and I upgraded. Just wanted to say the black ones can also have the bad pads. Black back plate = good /// silver back plate = bad I got granular in some forums and saw others discussing.

I've never owned an MPC, and seeing someone rock the workflow really opened my eyes. Just by watching this process, a bunch of puzzle pieces fell into place regarding house music production. The way you sequenced parts on the MPC sounds exactly like the 1000's of records I've purchased over the years. Thanks for taking the time to show this process. I never realized now how much house music production centered around just this one platform alone, and just how much the workflow really affected the sound itself. It's one thing to talk about the influence of the MPC academically; it's altogether another to see it in process. I kind of regret not starting with an MPC because the overall sound really matches up with the kind of music I enjoy making. When I sit down to make my next track, I'll be thinking about some of the techniques you use in this workflow and try to use what I've learned. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Hey Ricky, really enjoyed this video and nice to see the 1000 again. I’ve noticed they’ve seemingly had a resurgence. It was my first MPC back in 2008. I got it used and they’ve held their price all this time. Something I’ve never done well is organise my sample library on an MPC but your system looks refined for quick creation. Perhaps you could do a video at some point on your sample management and especially on an MPC. Keep up the good work! Sam

Hi Ricky, quick tip : if you want to go faster with the data wheel, press shift at the same time as you use it, and you’ll increase value 10 by 10 rather than 1 by 1. It will save your wheel life span ;-) Mpc1000 is the best! Had mine for 15years and it’s still the hub of my synth setup. With JJ OS 2xl of course!

I would be so happy to see more in-dept videos of some JJOS functions, like Pattern to PAD, and lots of others. @ghstcrm
@ghstcrm 4 жыл бұрын
X-101 you can do that in JJOS, both 1 and 2XL at least. if you look around 9:50 in the video when he sets the sample to loop, another parameter shows up on the top bar, “Lp” for the loop start point (distinct from “St” for the playback start point). if the lock symbol is “unlocked” then you can edit these points independently!

This video is so well presented. Looks great. Sounds great. Your voiceover is calm and informative. 😎😎 I’ve been making electronic music for 30 years and I miss the days where I knew my kit inside out. Where you had to know your hardware front to back and beyond even what the manufacturers intended or expected. Hardware was expensive. You didn’t have much of it. So you had to dig deep. These days it’s all too easy to get ‘just one more’ VST and pull up the first couple of sounds you hear. My bad. I should really spend more time getting inside each instrument. ⛅️ 🎹

one of the best mpcs, a reason to own an mpc. jjosxl is essential and so performance friendly. im diggin the force tho, but jjosxl is a keeper. akai would do well to try and hire jj. the 2500 is the best version imo, its nice to have 4 q-link sliders. you can also fit a roland data knob on that has a much better feel, might even be a different plastic but is also low profile.

had a 1k and 500 for years, loved them but could never gel with doing everything in one box. for me it was always like the central midi clock/transport control i used to sync everything. midi out 1 goes to the hardware drum machines, midi out 2 to the computer and if i had synths my computer was controlling the synths because i prefer to midi edit on ableton when i had a machinedrum i would write like the core rhythm on that and then use the mpc midi out to embellish on top with note repeat for the fills then cap it in ableton and wipe the sequences. maybe because i never had the jjos but i could just never get into sample or midi editing on it, id make sequences on it but dump them almost immediately to ableton and never save them on the mpc
