The one thing I am confused about is what is the direction of the MPC. I for one thought the MPC Live would give me a totally different approach to creating music, from apps on a computer. I currently do not own Fl Studio, Ableton etc because I spent a ton of money to get that organic classic way of creating with the purchase of my stand alone MPC Live. So when I see updates that’s not really advancing the MPC in a MPC work flow it upsets me. I thought this was an MPC and not another PC computer. This is the problem with dealing with company’s that get big and start doing deals with other companies they forget what made them special and forget about the people on their forums. Sad and sucks and I am not happy. Can we please get more stand alone features that are new, fun, creative, mind blowing, outside of the box, organic MPC style of creating music. Not cross promoting old third party company’s, us MPC users are trying to get away from. For god sakes listen to the people who spent the $1200.00 plus bucks on your company.

I feel you bro....but to make a standalone machine with enough power akai would essentially be selling you a pc as well, that's what they're not trying to do besides, the cost would be ridiculous It seems that akai expects serious producers to have access to a PC for power.....with the dollar losing value standalone is becoming ancient from a business standpoint
@oO5Dynasty4 жыл бұрын
Zo P I just charge my MPC as I use it, so the power is not the issue. I just plug it into the wall. But as for as the software, if they added this ableton software they can add something that is better for the MPC Live and X workflow. Forcing us back on to the computer with this type of addition is not what we saw coming to be honest. I have an ultra powerful Gaming Pc, I can use if I did want to create music on the computer. But like many other people in this community we wanted to move away from this type of work flow. Reason we took our hard earned money to get the MPC Live and X. I just expected more from this company when I honestly shouldn’t of had.

I appreciate that MPC is following through on their promise to the Force community (even though it took nearly one year) and even a surprise to all of the Live and X owners with this update. I own all three! I'm sure you will see some major MPC based updates shortly. Ableton needed to get this out before the end of the year. Now, I'll be pissed off if they announce a whole new lineup of products at NAMM next month and leave the X, Live, and Force in the dust as they did with the Ren and Touch. Now, that would suck!
@S1ph3r4 жыл бұрын
This is actually really awesome! I didn't even realize the ability to sync with ableton like this. I watch a lot of tutorials and the ableton inserts just sometimes sound and work better then the Mpc standalone in box ones. Is there a video that shows how I can start a production in MPC live and then "transfer" into ableton and still have everything line up? One thing that is kind if concerning about this is now I'm tethered to a computer again if I wanted to perform it live. Guess there is no way to take the finished ableton project (with inserts) and keep them in mpc in stand alone. Lastly, please tell me this also is a feature of the force (Have to go back and do my research)?
@Mirchitunes4 жыл бұрын
First of all, thanks for a very detailed and through walkthrough of Ableton Live Control integration. Ableton is a popular DAW that is preferred by many producers/remixers. However, why would you drain so much of your development efforts into another DAW when you could have spent that time improving MPC Live and MPC software? Although it is pretty neat MPC Live can be used to control Ableton with this feature update, Neither MPC Live nor MPC X is the best control surface for complex beast like Ableton. There are better control surfaces for Ableton like the Ableton Push 2 or the Akai Force. A DAW like Ableton is best controlled with a surface that has more buttons and knobs. Using the touch screen is slow and counter intuitive.

Come on guys, why put this nonsense in an MPC? For the Force, yes, I could see it being useful there with it having a similar workflow. But for the MPC X and Live, there’s a lot more you could have added to make these machines better. Updates are always appreciated 🙏, but when it’s a feature like this that doesn’t make any sense to the core users of these devices, it’s kind of an insult. And seriously, adding a feature that encourages people to use another system for their music instead their MPC would be like KZbin adding a Vimeo uploader and encouraging people to upload and watch their videos there. Your goal should be adding features that will inspire people to make more music, and better music on their MPC. Not adding adding touch screen controls for using an already well supported DAW on a computer. I just hope this Ableton feature can be totally disabled so it’s not wasting system resources. I’ll be sticking with 2.6 myself.

I bought Ableton Live Suite to get out of MPC due to ableton has a very nice and creative work flow, now they are back together again :)

Great . I watched this video at least 20 times. I can control my MPC X with ableton live except that I can't control the sound output with the MPC X. Is there anything I missed in the setup?

I know others are pissed off but I just paid for Ableton Live and I am pretty happy about this. I will still use my MPC Live in standalone, but I want to do more of my mixing and effects over on Ableton. I've been using my MPK as a controller but it has it's limitations. I feel more comfortable with my 16 pads.. I have more questions about the setup that were kind of rushed over in the video. I'm a little confused about the cables I need. Are you saying we need a USB to ethernet adapter and then an ethernet to thunderbolt adapter?
@Davidwesley63 жыл бұрын
for people first starting out can you clarify the connections needed? im stuck at a screen and its saying "waiting for communication from Ableton Live". and from your video I can see you don't have a midi in or out like I have connected nor do you have this usb cord so what to I need in order to follow along?

Congratulations on a slick implementation, it looks great for users wishing to incorporate ableton in their productions and live sets. Hopefully the team can now focus on implementing the many useful features requested by the mpc community and make the x/live a truly great standalone machine. Go Akai! More updates soon please!

As a long time Ableton user with tons of legacy projects, this feature is worthwhile for me. Ableton are a software company, so they'll never build my dream touchscreen controller, instead providing an API to their software for hardware developers to implement (which presumably is quite cheap and easy to do since most controller producers have implemented it). After trying a Macbook Air, Push, Maschine, iPad running Touchable, Gadget, BM3, etc etc I know that my dream solution has to be a reliable standalone hybrid. Something I can use LIVE, i.e. in my version of real life, away from a power supply, mouse, keyboard, audio interface and a 24" monitor. Laptops and iPads are power hungry multitaskers and a pain to use in the field. iOS file management is unstable. Portable samplers have cheap fiddly interfaces and require a laptop to download and edit. For me it would be so much better to have a hybrid device in my bag for recording on location, editing takes, jamming my ideas, but then have the flexibility to upload to a more mature DAW and jam using the same device. Or to perform LIVE, using said DAW to give me extra flexibility e.g bypass limitations of the internal software, i.e. max track count and MB of samples in RAM. But that's just me. Everyone has different needs and dreams, there is not a one size fits all when it comes to music technology. The other thing to remember is that companies like Akai don't have infinite budgets. So they have to make their products appeal to as wide a range of musicians as possible, hence all the competing product iterations and variations. Good software engineers are expensive and the sale of one MPC only pays for a limited amount of software development, feature updates, patches etc. Then you've got legacy development butting heads with evolution, where much esteemed feature X may have been the baby of some developer long since departed, or tied to a particular OS/version (JJOS etc). Just because a feature was once there doesn't mean it's trivial to have it in the latest version. Don't get me wrong, it's not all about me, but by allowing your production platform to become mine too, Akai gets more money for hardware and software development, so we both win.

nice add on feature and good to see you keep adding features, akai. and you see how much people appreciate the MPC workflow... even so much, that some start a shitstorm on a free feature, that opens possible workflows to other environments :-)))))... first world problems :-)))

The wrong person is in the right place focusing on wrong things by the look of it. If roughly 40% of your users don't care for the Ableton update theres a problem. Who is over product development for the MPC X and the Live? Someone needs to get Focused or Fired. Never forget Who made you What you are.

Am I the only one who thinks this is pretty cool? I'm pretty new to music production but started off investing in ableton standard and now after some time, have become very interested in the MPC sampling and performance workflow. I have an old push 1, and see this as a perfect upgrade! Should I not purchase this? why does everyone seem so angry in the comments?

Ditto below. There are other things more important that this - like making the looper more flexible like having an option to automatically add last recorded loop to new track - that would be an amazing addition.

Everything no one asked for and nothing actual real users have been asking for going on years now! MIDI doesn't work. Streaming audio from disk doesnt work and the 2GB ram is a boldfaced lie. I also have a Force, for which this was more expected but is also upsetting. But I'm sure your investors will be happy when you're next product tanks because you burned all your biggest advocates.

streaming would be nice... but midi doesnt work? i use it permanently for sketching ideas with my pro08... whats keeping it more stable is disabling program changes... (this is midi related wonkyness i had with a lot of gear)...
@buildingblocks82874 жыл бұрын
@sneakydisco ah, ok... no, i dont have that issues (i use it with DSI pro08, octatrack and analod rytm)... however i noticed, for me it works better, when MPC is master clock... normally i have this issues with midi in some way with all machines i own :-)... it could be this: your synth sends a programm change or cc, when you transpose. the CC or PRG change goes into MPC in and via out/through into the TR-8... this PRG change may cause an issue with the timing... try to disable any cc/prg change in the TR-8 and just enable clock... this may solve the problem :-)

Great follow up video on launching clips already created. Can you do a follow up video on using the new Network Midi and Remote options, as well. I’ve been using it that way to record clips into Ableton. The only issue I’m having is mapping the Ableton transport to the MPC because I only get the option to map Midi CC 4 (current work around is using Ableton transport keyboard shortcuts). The only obstacle is you have to go into Live mode activate clip record (2 bar pre-count) then back to the MPC Main screen then to Pad Perform to record midi into Ableton. Now that I wrote the steps out I can see why there is no video for this, but maybe you have a better way versus using an exteral keyboard.

What audio interface are you using for Ableton live? in standalone mode on the mpc we know its not being used
@ickebins69482 жыл бұрын
Well i tried it for the last hours. Got the Ableton link connection, can change the BPM but thats about it... Somehow all those features are just buggy as heck... I thought I could use the MCP more but no... its the same old same old for me. In standalone the workflow is still from the late 90's ( yeah yeah fanbois want it the oldschool way...) I'm gonna sell my mpc live 2 and get a Push 2 and NI Komplete out of it... Sorry but I had it for over 1 year and its just not worth my time anymore.

Dam shame! Taken away the classic mpc right in front of our face. Might as well have the touch. If they don’t come with a serious firmware update next. I’m going back to the 3000 or the 2000xl. Soon the Mpc x will be a 2200.00 controller for ableton.🤦🏾♂️

oO5 Dynasty ™ definitely bro! They have a force for this! Besides that the work for ableton with the mpc is hella slow compared to the push or the force. This direction is devaluing the mpc bro. They better come and come big for Mpc community. I’m not knocking ableton OR the community I think they are dope producers in that community. Just don’t forget about the dope mpc community that works just as hard and we need updates too period!

Any chance this is coming to MPC One eventually? Hardware-wise it's perfectly capable of this feature, so it must've been disabled in software, to "punish" us for getting the cheaper product, as if lack of battery, speaker, SDD bay, USB file transfer, WiFi, Bluetooth, additional in- and outputs, etc. were not enough ;) :D

@AkaiProVideo from the comments I am 100% sure the customers of MPC LIVE and X don't want this feature as they mostly bought it to get away from the computer and are Pros in the MPC environment. But the MPC ONE users want this since these are the users who are new to the MPC and are transitioning . I think you guys are better off giving this feature on the MPC ONE.
