This was my first MPC. I'd used the 60, 60II and 3000 in various sessions in various studios where it was rented. But I bought this one. It was actually used with 8 outs and full memory. Lots of great memories with it. I sold it once I went digital.

In the early '90s, Marco Alpert, at emu, proposed an 'SP1600' using first the sampling engine from the Emax II, and then the one from the ESI32 sampler. Product concepts were drawn up, but they were never approved. The new attitude that pervaded Emu was to build low-cost modules and achieve massive revenues. Marco took the idea (and his job) to Akai, and launched the hugely successful MPC2000 instead.

Your videos are really helpful. I've never owned an mpc, but maybe one day I can afford one. In the meantime I've been researching which one would suit me best and these vids are telling me everything I need to know in less then 10 minutes. Even showing the producers that used the machines helps me a lot envisioning the sound the machine makes.

I just wanted to clarify some stuff!! Roger linn was forced to leave akai, because numark purchased the company. They cheated him out of hes contract, I think he use to get royalties aswell for sale and they took that away as well. He didn't decide to leave, they ripped him off. 😪

Everything else works and when I opened it up, I think I was the first person to open it which is wild.. Couple things about the unit so far is, I enjoy how the fx sound. Like yes there are better reverbs and all that, but their decent. Favorite part hardware wise is the Jog Wheel. With the outside part being able to rotate on its own and spring loaded is so enjoyable. I owned a bunch of other Mpc's and I feel like all the other Mpc's should have this. Anyways. It will be fun to make some beats on.

I had 2000 classic but didn't like it, although I tried hard. You need a boot disk for 2000 classic. Disk management is elementary (you cannot even make folders!) No internal SCSI port, no IDE port. Awkward jog-wheel (I know some people prefer it over XL's jogwheel) at I couldn't get used to. Fixed positioned LCD screen (viewing angle of the original screen is pretty narrow, so XL's tiltable screen is quite usable). On 2000 classic, it is not easy to get into the internal; It's easier to open enclosure on XL and start trouble shooting. I often hear that 2000 classic and XL sound different, but I don't think that's the case. The sound characteristic of both machines are identical, or very, very close. You mentioned that drum pads were moved to right side, but I'd preferred them on the left side like MPC-60/3000. I always have to cross my arms on my XL when I chop samples!

Im pretty sure I commented on this bs post a year ago. it mustve been removed. I cant stand bs: 1. You dont need a boot disk, provided that you have 8mb flash rom installed, like I do. However, it's best to have a fresh boot disk, handy. Just in case internal boot is corrupt or some bs. That way, you will always have the option to use a fresh floopy to boot. 2. Why tf do you need folders for a 35mb capacity sampler??? Each high density diskette is 1.XMB. A few disks are probably needed for one song. 3. 2000 has SCSI. No MPC has an "internal SCSI" or any IDE. WTF are you talking about?? 4. WTF is awkward about the "jog wheel?" Inner wheel is for entering data. Outer wheel is for variably scrolling through samples. How tf is that awkward???? 5. MPC 60 II, SP1200, ASR X/10, and most keyboards and samplers have fixed screens. I guess you complain about all of them too? 6. Not easy to get inside???? WTF! The whole top comes off after removing a few screens. I opened the s78&7 up to install 8mb flash rom in less than 15 minutes. You must be incompetent. 7. If you prefer left side pads, why tf did you buy a 2000 in the first place??? Go get a bs Roger Linn MPC and STFUSDB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m glad Akai got rid of Roger Linn. 3k was too expensive. In 1997, a brand new MPC 3000 was $1200 more than a brand new MPC 2000 Studio Plus (SMPTE, 8 outs, Effects). Yet a MPC 2000 can do everything a 3k can. Plus a 2000 had more memory (at the time), can read .wav files, had 25k more note capacity, bright af graphical interface display, unique data/digit wheel (no other MPC has this s&$)), and NOTHING but 16 pads on the right side (XL has pads and other bs on right side). 2000 is BETTER than the 3000, 60, 60 II, 2000XL, 4000, and any other bs MPC. Had my 2000 since 1997. Best MPC ever. BTW, MPC Live, X, etc aren’t traditional MPCs. They are workstations. So dont compare them to a 2000. Which is simply a 16 bit drum sampler and 32 channel midi sequencer

The 4k was wayyyyyy ahead of it's time and it utilizes the Z1 sampler and ram was expandable with multiple outputs etc...you cannot up sample on the 2k nor connect to SPIDF or usb. I agree the 2k can beat a 3k but to me all are different workflows and sound sonically different. My opinion. I literally just started using a controller. Funny feeling (MpC touch... needs work)
