In this video we get into the good, the bad and the ugly of these two famous drum machines-- the mpc 2000xl and mpc one. These two machines have been my weapons of choice for the past 15 years or more! Ive made a career with these machines and I want to share my experience with you.

You should give the 2500 a try - I came from the 2000 and didn't feel like I really missed anything when I made the switch. But gained faster processing - no messin with floppies etc improved the usability a lot.

definitely agree, I've been on the 2500 for a while now and at one point I picked up a 2000 and compared to the 2500 it just doesn't do it for me. I can make any kind of beat and do it fast on the 2500 with JJOS but the 2000 is just missing too much for me. With all the new machines too, I'm just not crazy about all the bells and whistles, I like to keep it simple and just lay everything I do out on the pads.
@AfferbeckBeats
@AfferbeckBeats Жыл бұрын
Problem with the 2500 is the wheel is awful, so stiff and noisy. Good luck using it at night with other people in the house. And I never liked its ergonomics, having to press the mode button and a pad to get to different menus. With the XL you can park your left hand and do everything on the machine without moving it. But having moved on from both, it's hard going back to the classic MPC workflow, having to separately slice and save and assign every individual piece of audio you want to work with. The modern slice marker with one audio file thing is just a way better way of doing it.

Yo straight up. I’ve thought the same, he should definitely peep the MPC 2500 with JJOS. That’s my weapon of choice. It’s a perfect balance of old and new. The workflow is perfect and with JJOS it’s a beast. Not trying to plug my channel but if interested @Conductor give it a gander and if anyone has questions about the 25k I’m more than happy to help. Respect Conductor!...I feel you on the "crock pot" analogy...Mine is the Ensoniq ASR 10. I came in the game as Team Ensoniq . My mentor Geno had an EPS 16+ and he let me hold it for a solid month and I learned that machine top to bottom. When the ASR came out I copped it and that was my exclusive machine until 2007 when I got an MPC 1000. Since I've added the MPC One and Maschine Plus to the arsenal . I'm a gearhead...I love machines. I pulled out the ASR and banged out on it last week. I was gonna cop an SP 606 but opted for the MPC 1000.

I use a 2500 and a 2000 for different reasons. I use em both in FL. I also run my turntables and mixer thru the 2000 into the 2500. Big difference between the 2 when it comes to sampling. I use the 2500 for the 8-outs and run it into my interface. This way I'm using the 2500 to do drums and assign samples to the mixer of FL or Pro Tools and make the beat live and it's recording live. Saves alot of time and I don't have to sequence anything. Just mix and edit. Those are the times when I'm using a multitude of chops. But whether it's the Mpc or FL I set it up this way to be able to use either or and don't have to disconnect or move anything.

I don't know if any of you know this, but you can go into the menu under preferences, choose general, and on the Vintage Mode selection, you can use the MPC 3000, MPC 60 and the SP1200/SP1200 ring for your main output sound. I usually use the MPC 60 or the SP1200 most of the time. The SP1200 Ring sucks though. Try the other one's out if the drums aren't knocking like you need them to 🌗

What a treat this video was. Spoiled us with the length too lol. The spouse/partner video is actually a great idea haha. I always wonder for producers like you who have a studio at home but have a family- do you have set hours where your partner and kids know they can’t disturb you unless it’s like an emergency? Do they ever get resentful of the amount of time you require to be isolated from them and working on your craft? Long comment and you don’t have to answer but I do think it’s an interesting topic. I sold m both to get maschine mk3 in 2020 because it is faster but i missed the mpc so i got a mpc 1000 5 years ago. I ended up using the mpc way more then the maschine so i sold the maschine. It’s something about the mpc that i really like. So i also got a mpc 2500 again. The 1000 and 2500 are the perfect upgrade from the 2kxl. They have all the things that i missed on the 2kxl plus they have the feel of the 2kxl. So win-win.

My biggest regret in my music career was buying the MPC 2000XL instead of an SP1200. Everything I LOVED about the sound of Hip-Hop in the early/mid-90's was from the SP1200 or an AKAI sampler with a S950, but those DRUMS and 12-Bit harmonics was what I was chasing. Even tracking your songs out of the MPC into Pro-Tools was painstaking and often resulted in you losing some of the in-box magic due to latency when tracking out the stems. The MPC doesn't really have a sound, and for whatever "swing" you get, I think you're better served with Ableton or another modern equivalent that drastically reduces your time from idea to finished beat/song.

the 2000XL sound is fire i agree. i guess the only way we can get that sound is to run the new mpc's into/thru the XL.

Dope 🔥 🎧 beat making video 📹 man! I started on the Mpc2000xl and was using it since 2008. I got my first MpcOne 2 years ago and I wasn't ready for it I sold it.I was spoiled by My Mpc2000xl. I purchased a Mpc One this year and the beats have been coming 🙌🏽 along crazy different styles also. I used to chop LPS i had a mad collection i sold a couple of years ago to create.

I think the 2500 is the last machine that somewhat incorporated the sound of those 90s samplers, as well as some modern functionality. Thank God for JJOS. I need to sample all my drums into my ASRX then dump into my mpc software.

Not really. The 2000XL was the last MPC that had that sound. The 2500 has that modern sound

@JEFFMAN90 not as much as the XL but the 2500 has that sound as well as modern features. Chop up some drums in Ableton and chop them on a 2500 and see which ones knock harder. It's night and day difference. 2500 is a happy medium between 90s and modern functionality.

Try putting the MPC is MP60 mode. The drums slap way harder. Preference>General>Vintage Mode then scroll to MPC60. I like the SP1200 one too. Gives the beat more space.

31:21 that would be great topic to cover.. the balance of paying for private school, rent, car note or studio time/ instrumentals and mixing.. it’s all a investment but Quite a conundrum.. focusing on future or present.. you can put in more time at the job for more funds but loose time with family and also miss that creative AHAH moment that comes in the wee hours of night cuz you know you should be sleep but you can’t sleep cuz the mind is rambling with ideas 😂

Excellent! These videos are informational and inspirational. I'm a lover of music however don't create, my son does and having these conversations about creation, the journey are REAL. The equipment represents the journey! Be thankful, humble, and the blessing will follow. Continue to hone your craft, you're an amazing producer. Please make more of the videos. I look forward to hearing more of your art. Love!

I would still use my MPC 2000. Fully blown out with the Zip drive 250mb.. Roland JV 2080 and an M-88 controller. If I was still in the game. I heard so much about the MPC one.. Now you make me want to get one. Lol

The MPC One is amazing for making beats, not so much with the synth plugin sounds. Even though they can be used, they just don't compliment the drum kits that well, but there are some descent sounds in the plugins. It's just not many and you have to search and tweak them out. Akai needs to focus and work on really quality synth/orchestral plugins, and they will have the edge over everyone then 🌗
