Damn, the MPC60 adds soooo much desirable... noise to the drums. Almost like a compressor pulls out hidden but desirable sounds in a drum recording when forced into it. It really makes a difference to the power the drums carry in the track

NICE! Drums sound crazy! I’ve made up my mind. I’m going back to the older MPCs. The crunch on the drums on this are insane. I pulled out my 1000 and listened to an old beat I did and there was that crunch. The live just doesn’t crunch like that (or quantize like that). Going to have to pull the 3000 out of mothballs and make room for it and the 1000.

How does chopping on 60 work? is it numeric or can you see the waves? I have mpc 500 and numeric is kinda tedious especially with long samples and can be hard to be precise in some samples, although I like just recording short random parts and assigning them stricly on pads then play around, especially when samples are smooth without any drum beats
@WASKMUSIC
@WASKMUSIC 6 жыл бұрын
holy0damn you only got numbers, thats why i sample different sounds straight to the pads instead of sampling a long one and chop it up.

superb sir, and effortlessly performed, - i've got the same hardware, although i've got the 60ii, bought it new in '91, not a scratch on it. Had an S1000 but sold it after i bought an S3200, still i corrected that mistake buy buying 2x S950 on ebay, - luckily before all the revived interest... - love the trplt feel of the MPC, - just curious, were you working at 1/384 or quantized, also were you recording the sequence in double time or just using 8 metronome clicks/bar? once again, sublime sound sir, and thanks for the inspiration much love, E
@WASKMUSIC
@WASKMUSIC 6 жыл бұрын
Ian Tanner thanks for your kind words bro :) So when i remember correctly i used standard 1/16-3 without swing. No double time, i prefer 8th metronome when possible 😎
@iantanner7579
@iantanner7579 6 жыл бұрын
WASKMUSIC - appreciate the rapid reply - when i used to make breakbeat on the MPC i would often use 1/384 and operate the sequence double time to double the resolution, - perfect for UK hardcore, especially when triggering the 3200 just subscribed, love this kinda content, keep'm coming! - be well, stay safe -

plz can you tell me where the aliasing artifacts come from (in the main sample)? did you sample into sp1200 and then into the 60 ? dope beat bro
@WASKMUSIC
@WASKMUSIC 5 жыл бұрын
hey man! i actually made the beat without the SP1200. I only sampled in the 60. The aliasing frequencies you here are from the filter in the 950 (in the bassline). That happens when you filter down very low it starts to add some top end crunch. If you mean the sample itself it may depends on the sample chain. But when i remember correctly no SP1200 was involved. Thanks for watching

@WASKMUSIC

It doesn't help me, it helps my neighbours because the 5's are not so bassy. So i normally use the 8's on the day or when everybody else is working and use the 5's when people go to sleep. But for the last two years i only use the 5's, the 8's collecting dust, the new music room is smaller than the old one.

couple questions bro. do you use swing on the 60? if so whats your sweep spot? 52? 54? so you go full bandwidth on the 950 to sample the sounds you want to use for the lows then use the filter to kill the high end. whats your sweet spot on the s950s filter on the lows you like to use? yeah i have an s950 since 1991 and I use it with the mpc x. when I JUST had the 950 back in the 90s i did exactly as you did. thanks for the response and the track is FIRE!!!!

@@WASKMUSIC That was what I meant. if you want good quality sampler music... you cannot basically use any virtual sampler, or even a modern Akai as the pitch/timestretch algorithms sound rubbish!! They make sound everything like a a very compressed mp3. And thats not compatible with any BoomBap, Trip Hop or BigBeat music!! So you have to buy a dinossaur from 35 years ago just to tiestretch-resample sounds!! IT MAKES ME CRAZY!! how little effort they have put into this things with modern tecnology!!
