Custom pad is when you want to control other drum programs. It changes the pad mapping to chromatic, so you can use it with Atlas, or Drum rack.

Let’s say I have midi file from cymatics how can I convert it to pattern like you we’re working in this expansion

Ill research in standalone, but in Control mode, you drag into the grid. This will generate a new sequence (not sure why), you will have to select all the notes and copy and paste into your current sequence you're working on.
