Jon Favreau: MPC helped build the tools for virtual production using a game-engine platform to emulate live-action film production in a VR space: even though the film is completely digitally rendered, every environment is made digitally by the artists at MPC, and every character is key-frame animated. The tools were being refined constantly; and now MPC has a suite of tools that are available to any filmmaker based on the innovations that we made on the Lion King.

They could literally make a whole ass documentary with this CGI and I would believe they are real animals. Heck sometimes I feel in future they don't even need real actors, CGI will be everything (of course they won't waste their money and time on cgi instead of hiring real actors but just saying).

I heard they're making a film with an actor who's been dead for many years, using another actor to act his performance. They'll put his face on the other actor... It seems super redundant and morally questionable, but I guess we'll see what happens.

@@Trathaal yeah I think they already have experimented with it. Didn't they use a cgi model of Paul Walker in fast and furious movie?
@Trathaal
@Trathaal 4 жыл бұрын
Halsey Ashley that’s right, and I think it was well received. In the case of this new movie it’s stirring up debate about whether it’s ethical or not; with Paul Walker it was ok because his death was recent and he would’ve wanted a proper send off from his biggest role, but here we can’t ask for his permission to use his face because he’s long gone, even if his surviving family allows it. Personally, I think it’s a waste of talent for the actor who’s going to be actually doing the acting; we need the fresh talent and new names! Why on earth should we waste his opportunity just to say we can bring actors back from the dead? Otherwise in the future we won’t ever have actual new talented actors and actresses, we’ll just cgi the same tired faces from celebrities gone by in for many years.
@halseyashley6562
@halseyashley6562 4 жыл бұрын
@@Trathaal yeah I agree with that!! I'd understand if the character was of the actor who died or if this was a sequel to the actor's past movie but if it's a new movie, then there's no reason to bring him back.

Andrew R. Jones: Making animals act and talk in a way that doesn't break the reality is the most challenging aspect for animators. MPC did an amazing job pushing through an insane amount of animation work in a short amount of time. My hat is off to the entire animation department at MPC; their love and passion for this film is up on the screen for all the world to see.

MPC Film was involved with the project from its inception, when MPC VFX supervisor Adam Valdez began discussing evolving methodology with Jon Favreau and Disney while they were wrapping up the Jungle Book campaign in October of 2016. From there, the vision began to take shape. Jon Favreau wanted to create a new connection to a beloved story through a documentary style sense of reality and a true representation of Africa. That directive would first take the team to Kenya on location scouting and data capture missions, before moving into virtual production and beyond through final visual effects and animation.

Adam Valdez: The entire project (from world building to character building) was informed by our initial trips to Africa. After we went to Africa, we did the virtual production together, and we did the final animation and VFX together. We were collaborative partners from beginning to end, and the technology and methodology enabled us to capture the creative choices we made on the virtual set, and carry them through to the end.
