I'm amazed with so many artists / youtuber's who provide so much information to those who are starting / starting to make music like me. Thank you! I'm living for another 6 months in Washington DC and I really wanted to learn how to use drum machines and synthesizers to make music. Does anybody know how to tell me a teacher? the videos have helped me a lot but I need to make the options available that the technology offers nowadays. Thank you very much! meanwhile, I'm inspiring myself with you...

I enjoy your videos. Can you assign more than one note to make a chord on one step while sequencing? Thanks.

Hi ! Thanks for the video ! There is a way that could avoid the sound of a pad when you select it (in play mode and in Step Sequence mode)? Always when you press a pad it sounds? For me, it becomes a problem if you are preforming and creating the sequence in a live session.

Even though I have the Live 2, I haven't really used it much and aren't really familiar with that side of it. Just cant jel with the workflow. I might try it again later this year when I have some free time.

"Step sequencer also works with midi" Does that mean i can play a chord on a midi keyboard and that it will be set on the selected step?
@viberations7 жыл бұрын
Hey Sleepydog, just tested this specially for you -- no you can't record those notes unfortunately into the step sequencer, all you can do is play along and test your notes, but you do need to put them in manually using touchscreen and/or pads.

Big thanks for that! :)

Great video but the sound of the MPC is too loud compared to your voice. It’s really hard to hear what your saying. Will keep watching your channel regardless because your content is on point.

Hey, great tutorial. But you're saying that playing with external MIDI keyboard is not implemented, which is FALSE. I literally just tested it with my Yamaha Reface DX -- I didn't even go to any Options/Preferences or anything, simply connected the keyboard with a MIDI cable, loaded a factory demo project, selected a synth program, went into the step sequencer mode and voila - able to play the notes with my external keyboard right off the bat. You might wanna double-check your MIDI cable or ... ?
@JAdeWii_7 жыл бұрын
viberations you can play then and live record them, but you can't press a pad and chose the note.
@viberations7 жыл бұрын
Okay, so you're talking about incoming MIDI note message to select a pad. I guess it could be handy, but you have to understand that there are side cases when this would actually cause problems. Imagine your synth is connected with both MIDI in & out, and you just wanna jam over your beats while looking at the step sequencer screen that represents a kick for example. You don't want your pad to change and move to other drum pads in a step sequencer every time you press a different note on your piano, right? There would have to be a setting somewhere to enable/disable this behaviour.
@JAdeWii_7 жыл бұрын
viberations eh not sure about that. The octatrack had this feature and it worked perfectly

Hi, I was trying last night for 2 hours,i was using a little USB keyboard which is recognised by the live,ynow i can play chords etc But i couldnt find anywhere that allows me to record say a 16 step bassline into the live via the keyboard, Can you sequence basslines ,from a keyboard into the step sequencer? thanks for any help
@viberations7 жыл бұрын
Step sequencer isn't really meant to be recorded live into, hence it is named 'step' sequencer, where you do it step by step. And no, you can't record midi into it. But i guess if you record into a usual piano roll track, quantise and then open it in step sequencer mode - the notes would be there.. Have you tried that?

How could you output a sequence to a synth? Does step seq mode work in midi out or cv out?

It's kind of sad that the MPC Live/One/X's step sequencer is trash. No follow option (if more than 1 bar), and it's just clunky as hell. Pads can't be in "scale mode" at all, so you can't play melodies within two octaves.... everything is pressing the screen over and over and selecting the pad, etc. Even though you can record something via a midi keyboard, there's almost no point, because you might as well just record in real-time into a Sequence and not even use the Step Seq at all.
@JAdeWii_3 жыл бұрын
True that. Tbh, the only reason I've been enjoying the MPC so much lately is because of the sampling. The actual groovebox like features to make a song from scratch are meh compared to Maschine, but sampling.. they nailed that.
