Just bought one, it’s my first dive into the MPC world. Seems like it does a lot for the money. I totally understand that if you own the original ONE, there isn’t much point in buying this so I’m assuming I’m the target audience. I want an MPC but I don’t want to spend a fortune. The workflow has taken me a minute to get my head around but I’m loving it. I come from an Ableton background but I have a Maschine MK3 which I love and I had an SP404 MKII which is how I fell in love with standalone. I got a really good deal on a used one from a guy locally who couldn’t get on with it. It was only two months old in the box so I have the purchase receipt for the warranty and re registering it was easy unlike pre owned N.I gear! I’m looking forward to spending more time on it. 👍

I wouldn't call it an entry level unit. It uses the same software and firmware as the MPC X, Live, and Key61. The major differences are the available inputs/outputs which are not essential to its use.

honestly i use the MPC ONE more than my Live in the studio. they sound the same IMO. but the main factor is this Has More buttons for dedicated functions. which is perfect in a studio environment. sometimes touch can take you mind off what your doing. it has no battery but if its always hooked up thats not a issue.

I purchased the one plus used at a great price. I don't have any plans to be a high level producer with it but have seen people do so with much less advanced equipment than this. I just like gear and I love music and it's great to live in a time where anyone can obtain quality gear just for the sake of the enjoying making music.

i bought it at 799 last year. but whatever, it's a really good price for what it is. i wouldnt call it entry level even though it is because is the cheapest one and has a bit les features, but the live 2 is worth more just because of the battery and speaker. not because souds better or gives you more features. just the mobility part

Everyone I knew with an MPC never did much but go broke. I also remember ppl calling FL studio a toy like daw. It comes down to skills, some ppl need all the advantage they can get, and some ppl can pick up a fairly cheap instrument and create wonders. The one is dope especially if paired with an interface and used in conjunction with a good daw imo.

The One has the exact same software/firmware as the X and the Live. They all function the same. Iwould consider the Studio entry level.

The Wifi & Bluetooth is cool but if you already have an MPC one and you Have a smartphone, You can Tether your Wifi connection thru usb with your phone. I haven't had a problem with updating the software or anything like that and its not much of an inconvenience to connect my phone up. As for Bluetooth, i guess thats nice for who wants it. Lol My gripes are the RAM still being 2GB. And the 16GB of storage. Im like you Bolo, i rarely use the internal storage lol. I got 256GB in my OG MPC One. Lol I feel like this is for someone who never owned an MPC and wants to buy one.

At this price for everything it does, and the fact that I need those MPC pads, which are bigger the my Ableton push 2's pads, I will more than likely pick it up eventually. The push 2 interface with Ableton is just not that intuitive and at times frustrating. I think this MPC one will be a much better interface. I honestly think it's ability to track out beats in standalone is better than anything nout there right now at it's price.

Yo Bolo, I'm sure this question has been asked before BUT if you were just starting out, would you get a MPC One Plus or a Maschine Plus for your first "groove box"? I have the Maschine Micro MK3 and I do like the Maschine workflow but all this talk of stability issues has me nervous to get the Maschine Plus. I'd really appreciate your input!

It appears the only thing this new MPC One Plus has that my MPC One doesn't is the red color scheme (I personally prefer the original black) and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi support. That's it. So, for me, it's not worth the upgrade. If it included all of the new plugins and 4GB of RAM, or maybe a battery pack, then the upgrade would be worth considering. However, that's not the case. 4GB of RAM with the new plugins included (Fabric XL, etc...) would've made this a killer portable standalone production unit. It's a missed opportunity. Well, since the MPC One is considered an entry-level unit anyway, then perhaps Akai might make such upgrades to the next MPC Live to come out. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hey Bolo, I'm hoping you're the guy that can help me out with this. I prefer sequencing in Ableton. What I can't figure out is how to get my ableton midi clips to trigger the mpc plugin instruments. My thought is the MPC could serve as a sound module. I can't find any videos out there.

I'll stick with my live 2. I create so much faster with stand alone. It reminds me when i used to make beats on the motif 61 keyboard. Ideas just used to flow effortlessly.

I do loop based production on an app called Novation Launchpad. I know this has a mode for cueing loops, but is it GOOD for that? I may pound out a drum pattern or two, but 95% of the time, I’m just looking to set my loops up then record the whole song live as I play everything. Would this be good for that? Its not just good for begginers its also good for advanced, the only reason a lot of people get the mpc one confused as for begginers is beacause its a little smaller, and less internal memory, for that just buy you a sd card when it gets full, transfer all sd card memory to your computer and repeat when it gets full again

All of this nonsense about converters and sound lately is absolutely crazy to me. If you really buy into the notion that converters are stopping you from making great music you are horribly mistaken.

For real man. If you miss the grittyness from other converters, buy a piece of outboard gear and have it do what you want. But even without that, the tools are already in the box to achieve whatever sounds you want to get, it'll just take some tweaking. And honestly, it's better that way. We aren't all making music that calls for that. Give me the true sound of the music and if I want to dirty it up, warm it up, drown it in other effects, I'll do that myself. The gear that's being released is great, albeit the MPC One+ feels like a very lame "upgrade" even if it is only $700 and cheaper than a normal MPC One right now.

If you're going to buy an MPC at all why not buy the NPC Live 2? I mean you can use it in the studio or you can take it anywhere with using a one you have less ins and outs you can't put a internal hard drive in it so you can't have your two terabytes worth of your favorite everything. You don't have a built-in speaker so you don't have to carry anything with you but you can also plug it in and use all the great things and MPC does with your computer. To me it don't make any sense to own anything else besides the MPC live 2. Otherwise you're just ripping yourself off. Now I know the OnePlus has two more gigs of RAM which would have been nice if they would have put that in the live 2 too because it definitely needs it I have mine freeze up until the reads the whole hard drive every time I turn it on but then it works after that pretty much flawlessly. But honestly the live 2 It's definitely the only MPC anybody should buy until they give us something that's just like the life too but with more RAM and hopefully more than 2 gigs that's so weak.
