I’m sticking with ma’ X. Had it since 2018. My productions do fine while in controller mode. My computer has plenty of ram and can do plenty of audio.

Hahaha, thank you! 🙏 Some people are afraid there will be no Native Instruments upgrade. I, for one, will go to whichever suites best. That said, I am REALLY paying attention to how these companies move. I have ditched my NI subscription, and currently have no MPC or Maschine...so, open market here. Probably going to receive some smoke, myself, along this journey 😵

my x goes in controller mode anyway with 32 gig ram. the light colours work so much better on camera though.

Yeah they do... especially in blue light. The big thing, to me, is the included instruments that come with the MPC X SE. I know that you could always just take $300 and get some, and with the sales, likely already copt by MPC X owners...still. They definitely made a "Special" Edition that is a little extra, without making the X obsolete

The MPC Live 2 and the original MPC X have the same amount of RAM. Where did you hear about the Live 2 out performing the original X? I have both and the MPC Key 61. The X and the Live 2 performance is the same in terms of speed however, the Key 61 does load sounds a little faster with the 6 gigs of RAM. The Live 2 only has 4 gigs just like the original X, the MPC One and the first Live.

Everybody I know with both the MPC X and the MPC Key 61 said the exact same thing. I didn't mean to imply that it is a dramatic difference, but there is a difference. That said, they all should be equally efficient, regardless...which they are, for the most part. With the current MPC X however, Akai is going to need to offer more out of their flagship, if they are going to continue charging the same price. People want more than just some extra Q Links and a bigger screen. Akai understands this, hence the Special Edition. While there may be some that are complaining that it is not enough, it is pretty much what the current MPC X needed. Nothing dramatic, just a little tighter. If they plan to update or upgrade anything underneath their flagship, they will also need to improve the MPC X. I think that is what is happening here. Good for us, I guess.

Your confused. The MPC X, Live, Live II, and One have 2GB of RAM. The X SE and key 61 both have 4GB of RAM. No MPC has 6GB of RAM.

2GB of RAM and upgraded storage would cost near to nothing... the price increase seems to be related to giving you the library also that would cost you $300 otherwise... But then again that's $200 for the RAM and storage upgrade... and that is only upgraded to make the plugin library worth it. The RAM is also a benefit to added sampling but user memory stays the same but probably the idea is to add a hard rive anyway. The colour I like as it's look retro but people didn't like the actual retro units because of how they looked it was because of how they sounded. Although, they were not very HQ, the sound was the more organic element to them, the op-amps used in the AD and DA conversion. Would be nice is they offered a old school output with these models, but they only seem to have a plugin emulation which isn't worth much. It does seem a bit bloated in price, it should be the same price as before as the cost of production lessens over time and they haven't changed anything in that respect... new colour and extra stick of RAM... I could get a extra stick for my computer now for £15 and I'm a consumer buying high quality fast RAM, this RAM will be pretty low end... probably DDR3 maximum... someone correct me if I'm wrong. I would have liked for them to have added a firmware upgrade adding the DAW like function of the FORCE to make every day production with it a lot less of a headache. $2500 for something I would have to export to a DAW to complete fully composed track is a bit of a silly investment unless you are already making good money off of just making beats. It's a lot better to have the Q-links like this but that shouldn't be the case... they should have laid out the Q-links out better on the LIVE, LIVE 2 and the ONE in the first place. Sample start and end being on a different page? No one said "Why are we doing that?"... anyway, I'm not made of money so this doesn't offer enough but will be in a place in my head of a imagery setup... but that's about it lol

its pretty lame upgrade. phones have had 4gb of ram since ~2015 and a 64 gb SSD is $10-15. This is the minimum effort upgrade, and at the price they're charging its a joke.

I get it, for sure. Like I said, I think it is just to pacify in order to buy a little bit of time. Akai couldn't make it too dramatic, because that would make the regular MPC X irrelevant. As far as the price goes, they are also stuck there, if they want to continue to keep their flagship in that range. There is probably no rhyme or reason to any of it, other than maintaining profit margins.

Phones and PCs are general purpose computers. They always are going to have better specs than dedicated computers, like game consoles and devices like an MPC.
