This technique originated on the SP 1200 with the multimode and multilevel function it's 8 pads not 16 but the very similar in concept.. great video

Mannn I love this video. I was doing it the hard way. I was extracting my sample and changing the pitch of the copy Sample just so it could be in another key. This method saved so much time

I love this technique which you demonstrated, Marlow. You way you laid everything in 16 level is a unique way to create your beats!!! I also Tracklib is great tool when it comes to finding samples to chop and lay out in your drum machines!!! Its just as good as beat digging yet it's a little easier!!

16 level on volume/velocity was the next evolution of the accent function on earlier drum machines like the TR line.

Came from the Emu sp12 the mpc60 came later studio440 had a pitch knob but not that chromatic still. Sp12 shaped hip hop boom bap.

wow thanks. this finally clicked for me. since i don't have an mpc, this way of describing it helped me apply it to my virtual drum machine for self-sampling horns and creating more interesting drum grooves. created some chops and set them across four pads with -2dB increments to similar effect.

Hi, I just bought an Akai S01, € 100, a good price. Gives the signal pressure and character. The higher frequencies are lost a little…. relaxed sound I would say. If you ever get one, try this underdog. Another advantage is that it starts without a system disc I'm really excited, color machine🍻

Fantastic. I am new to the MPC (Live II) and completely misunderstood the 16 Levels thing. I thought it was for limiting the pad sensitivity to only 16 velocity values! Derp. This is so valuable. Thank you. // Do you have a video (explanation) for how you use the SP to 'dirty up' the MPC beats?
