This Coach’s Pass session is delivered by James Oliver-Pearce’s session, Lead Youth Phase Coach at AFC Wimbledon. The session focuses on breaking lines in small-sided games.
James sets up a possession practice with four players on the outside and a 2v2 in the middle. The purpose of the drill is to get midfielders understanding the types of movements needed to break lines and join in with attacks, as well as knowing when to retain possession.
The session then progresses into overlapping runs and thinking about whether to release the runner on the outside, play into the middle or retain possession.
