Thanks for the great video Mike! I gotta say, I LOVE Pulsar plugins! I have the pleasure of beta testing for them and they make the best stuff and are just the nicest guys. I work with many different developers and they are one of my favorites!

@mixingwithmike There is a common misconception that all those albums by Bowie, Elton John, Queen etc. were recorded and/or mixed on Trident A-Range console. Fact is, that Geoff Frost and John Wood at Sound Techniques studio in Chelsea, London (operational from 1965 til 1976) made their own console, called A-Range. Only 14 ST A-Range consoles were made and those were sold to studios such as Sunset Sound and Elektra in LA (only two ST A-Range consoles in the US) and several in the UK - of course Trident Studios were one of the clients and got theirs in the late 60s. Trident and Malcolm Toft built their first own console - also calling it A-Range (I am sure if they tried that move nowadays, they would get sued) in 1971. It was a different circuit with by now famous EQ with sliders. Meanwhile, Trident's Sound Techniques A-Range console was still at the studio, upstairs in the mixing room, being used at least til 1977. So, if people are talking about A-Range console they often think Trident, but actually lots of those records were in fact tracked and/or mixed on original A-Range by Sound Techniques. Nowadays, American Danny White bought Sound Techniques company from Geoff Frost and they reproduced and enhanced A-Range circuitry and are making ZR consoles. Sunset Sound has 8-track ZR sidecar, Boulevard Recording in LA has the first ZR console in a commercial studio in the States, there is one in Athens, GA at private studio, Sleeper Sounds in London has got one etc.

Yeah, it's hard to know what was done on the Trident A-Range. In terms of David Bowie, it's possible that some of the later Ziggy Stardust songs like "Starman" and "Rock n Roll Suicide" were done on the Trident, but the rest of Ziggy was almost certainly the Sound Techniques board, along with the "Velvet Goldmine" single. Aladdin Sane would have had been done on the Trident board, songs like the title track and "Lady Grinning Soul," but a lot of that album was recorded at RCA in the States. And like you said, it would have all been mixed on the ST board, although back then more of the EQ decisions were made during tracking rather than in mixing. Diamond Dogs would have been recorded on the Helios at Olympic (though it seems "Rebel Rebel" and "1984" might have been done at Trident, at least in part) and then mixed at Tony Visconti's home studio on a Trident B-Range, which used the same pre-amps as the Trident A-Range, but a different, 3-band EQ. The most Trident A-Range heavy Bowie album is undoubtedly Station to Station, which was tracked and mixed on that board at Cherokee Studios in LA. "Subterraneans," also was started at Cherokee, as part of an aborted soundtrack for the film The Man Who Fell to Earth, before director Nicolas Roeg told Bowie, and then continued at the Château d'Hérouville (which had a custom console) and mixed at Hansa (which had a Helios).

I find what is happening in the audio world very interesting, it seems like everything we need functionally has been made and now developers are playing around with harmonics for different "flavours". I think we have enough emulations now and it would be amazing to see something innovative coming out, not just the 9th version of an EQ/comp you already own.

Absolutely that’s what’s happening, everything is about “legendary and rare analog console” emulations … when they all have the same eq curves and saturation techniques under the hood

AI is suggesting that both the shelves (using shelving filters) and 2 mid filters (peaking filters) are active.
