Unfortunately we had an equipment failure and had to fall back to in-built mics and sound reconstruction to even be able to get this out of it. Sorry about that. We've added subtitles though.

I bet you can find recordings of Hilbert or Poincaré out there with a better sound quality 🤯That being said, the wisdom he is sharing in this video is surely at the level of Hilbert or Poincaré, absolutely mind-blowing. More than worth the effort trying to follow him!

Not sure why I clicked on this, but I am so glad that I did. What an inspiration he is. The best part? I suspect he would not think of himself in that way. And to attribute a lot, even most, of his success to luck, very humble. Boy did I need to hear this as I am feeling stuck in the journey I am on (related to mathematics). I am renewed!

허준이 교수님은? 나와 같은 한국인 으로써 한국인중의 최초의 필즈상을 받은 위대한 수학자 입니다. 저도 수학을 좋아한 사람으로써 그의 말하는 자세를 보고 있으면~ 너무나 진중하고 겸손한 모습이 내가 믿고 있던 수학자 다운 모습을 보여줬습니다. 허준이 교수님의 어머니에 대한 일화는? 저에게 많은 교훈을 주었습니다. 한국에선 극히 드문 어머니의 모습을 보여준것 입니다. 만약 일반적인 어머니였다면? 과연 오늘날 허준이 교수님이 있엇을까?? 의문이 되는 부분도 있습니다 허준이 교수님의 어머니는? 아들에게 적당한 관심을 두셨던 분이 십니다. 아니 무관심이 맞을 줄도 모르죠~~ 아무튼 그런 적당한 무관심이 오늘날 허준이 교수님이 탄생시킨 결정적인 요인 중에 하나라고 생각합니다. 물론 허준이 교수님의 천재성을 부정하는 것은? 결코 아닙니다. 수 많은 천재들이 즐비 하는 세상에서 결정적 작은 요인으로 결과가 다른 경우가 많을 거라 생각합니다. 허준이 교수님을 응원하며~ 단이도 훌륭한 수학자가 되길 희망합니다.

I guess the girl saying „it cannot be just luck“ didn’t catch at first the deep philosophical point he was making, by insisting on the definition of luck. You can say that you’re lucky to be capable to work hard, or to be able to have fun with math, as many aren’t working hard even if they want to. It is not at all obvious that the fact that someone is working hard is not a result of luck. In fact, you can argue that the whole universe is a giant stochastic process where every single event is random or composed of innumerable random components, starting from an elementary particle level.

When I'm met with a math problem that I don't know how to solve, I just go "Huh?"

It seems like everyone is wearing mics. Did the mics fail, or is using the room sound an error on the video production side? Edit: I'm about halfway in, and even at maximum volume on my laptop it's difficult to make out some of what is being said. If there is any way the audio can be fixed (or even improved) and the video re-uploaded, we would all be greatly appreciative!
