Brought back nice memories when we travelled that road from Gilgit to Hunza. The new road was being built then and foreigners needed special permits. We were only allowed to fly to Gilgit and from there continue by road to Hunza. That was back in 1968. You described some of the scary parts very well. In those days a very challenging adventure, but nature/ mountains breathtaking 👋

Traveled down this road from China in 1995. The road was not in such good shape then, but there were no tourists or ziplines… the villages were much smaller and luckily we had clear skies. I hope that the villagers are getting some benefit from the tourism but that is not often the case.

The name Kashmir is believed to be derived from the ancient Sanskrit term "Kaśmīra", which has two prominent interpretations: 1. Kaśyapa-Mīra: According to Hindu mythology, the name is linked to the sage Rishi Kashyapa, who is said to have drained a vast lake called *Satisar* to create the valley. The term "Mīra" is thought to mean "lake," so Kaśmīra translates to "the land of Kashyapa's lake." 2. Descriptive Origin: Some historians suggest the name comes from the Sanskrit phrase "Kaśyapa-Meru," referring to a place resembling a mountain (Meru) that belonged to Kashyapa. Additionally, "Kasmira" is mentioned in ancient texts such as Kalhana's *Rajatarangini* (12th century), affirming its historical and mythological roots.

The last commenter wasn’t paying attention when saying the narrator was biased by not mentioning China. The video began by him stating it was a joint project between Pakistan and China. ( what is with all the thin skinned nationalists?) The road in the video looks nothing like the poor condition I faced when biking in ‘88 from Islamabad to Kashgar, China. Gilgit was magical as was Kashgar before the Han Chinese poured in. The other route I biked , from Chitral to Skardu also had its precarious moments. The Pakistanis were a delight to be with.
