Mpox | Mpox on the rise as more patients test positive

There are two recorded deaths from the 13 recorded cases of Mpox in South Africa since May.
A number of the cases recorded were among immunocompromised people living with chronic illnesses such as HIV.

The Afrikaans news calls it "aappokke" (which translated is Monkeypox - the proper globally accepted medical term). Why "Mpox" in South Africa?

MPox also known as Monkey Pox originated in the DRC. It does not surprise me it is named this as "bushmeat' which includes monkeys is a common diet.
