Great video as usual. I wonder if you could discuss ill health early retirment on the nhs. In particular if locum GPs paying into their NHS pension are eligible for it. Thank you so much

The bigger scandal is that at the same time, these same MP's want to legislate to move ordinary people's DC pension into 5% of default funds into high risk UK startups. Jeremy Hunt even quoted this would offer a return, when any pension fund stating such guarantees would be hit by the regulator for making unsubstantiated claims.

Hi, just found your channel. Thanks for the amazing content. I am in a similar position to yourself I think. I am a GP Partner and am now in my 30's. I have paid in to my NHS pension since I qualified aged 23 with no breaks. The vast majority of people say to stay in the scheme for the myriad of benefits. This includes DB, state backed, inflation proof life long etc etc. These are all excellent, I completely agree. The negatives are big though. Namely I have to contribute employee and employers contributions which is a significant amount at around 25% gross pay. Also I can only draw this at aged 68 (without incurring penalties). In contrast, a SIPP offers more flexibility. You can withdraw from aged 58. You can choose how much to put in (more or less money). Also in the event of my death the full amount is retained. Sorry if this question has rambled somewhat just curious to hear your thoughts if you have time. Thanks

I would also love these answers. Seems like the benefits of the NHS pension are outweighed by being independent and growing your own retirement wealth, in a well diversified portfolio. What is a full consultant db pension on retirement? We have calculated to be around £2400 after taxes/month. So less than £40k per year? If you have a personal retirement account or ISAs worth £500k on retirement, and you had 10% return on the investments, you could live on £50k/year and never touch the principal investment. If you start investing early in our career in the NHS could easily build a retirement account of well over £1m by retirement and live very well off the gains and pass the full value to family on death. Seems like NHS pension may well be best of pensions, but personal retirement account, combined with personal life insurance policy, which can be very cheap, is far superior. i am coming from US, where this is definitely the case, so perhaps there are laws or taxes in UK which are different? would love you to cover this

Thank you for the video. Due to familiarity many UK investors want to own shares in UK companies. Since I started my investment journey it has cost me alot in missing out on the USA/rest-of-world post-pandemic gains. Only bright spot is buying the Rolls Royce and Centrica dips. Not a shame to be out of Europe though - more benefits that purely economic.

The hypocrisy from those guys is insane then given how much they try to push workplace pensions proportionaly more into UK stocks. Personally, this mainly why I dont hold more than 1% UK in my ISA to offset anything that they might add to me before I notice to change it (if possible).

Have you or can you explain, taking these lovely charts into account, explain in a real number example, how you justify strongly investing in the NHS pension vs a private pension like multiple ISA’s etc. if these pension funds are invested in the exact same equities you are investing in your personal stocks ISA, there are huge returns that you never see in the NHS pension. A consultant might contribute over £1000/month for years and years to NHS pension, only to receive a taxable pension payout of £2700/month and if they die their spouse only gets half of that. Whereas based on your numbers of past investment returns, they could have a private retirement account of close to £2mil, which they could live on their 10% annual returns much more comfortable lifestyle, and leave the full balance to spouse and children on death. Would love to see how you justify the NHS pension, seems pretty crap to me
