One of the biggest problems with material investment right now is people are investing in things that aren’t worth money. like Leonardo DiCaprio. no one in this generation is going to know him or buy anything about him he’ll be the next beanie baby. He’s going be an old bearded man that this generation doesn’t care about. time is money and time flies the style and faces need to change fast to match this generation where EVERYONE HAS ADHD IN AMERICA. So Im 40. Had no idea who Mr. Beast was until this podcast. Im checking him out later today. Crazy. These guys nailed the reality of how entertainment, and it’s creators and stars, are now, more than ever, separated by generations. I grew up watching what my parents watched. Kids today have no concept of what their parents watch and vice versa.

I'm 10 years your junior. I probably watch what you grew up on but a lot of it doesn't age well. Like Good Times is trash just teaching us how to stay poor. @@MrArtVein Mr. Beast tailored his content to the algorithm, not the viewer. Nothing ages more poorly than modern youtube content, as IPs have no protection, and everything gets copied. Mr. Beast is a few years from becoming like the Disney Toy Collector youtube channel. If you aren't familiar, their was a Brazilian woman who use to have the top youtube channel, with just videos of her hands playing with toys, with a voice over. Rogan leveraged his youtube fame into independent success. Mr. Beast should learn from Rogan. Rogan doesn't need KZbin or Spotify, and nor does Mr. Beast, but Mr. Beast hasn't realized it yet.

@@conchobar exactly my thoughts about those YT algorithm exploiters, the analogy I can think of is mainstream music of last 5-10 years is basically the same - they follow some sort of algorithm to create the tune, write some words, it kind sounds like music, but there is no substance to it, no associated feeling, and when those "stars" try to pull something out of their back end during live performance - it just implodes people should create things based on their experiences, their thoughts, not ponder to some equation that someone made up, it downgrades us as a society

I’m 31 and have been heavy into KZbin off and on since like 2014. I remember back in the day, seeing this video of this goofy kid who counted to 100,000 out loud and it was like 17 hours long or something crazy. Idk what it was but I was fascinated by the kid, that he had the determination to actually do that video. I think I then watched a few other videos that were in a similar vein, and eventually subscribed shortly after. I don’t really watch his content much personally, but I’ve kept tabs on it, and his growth has been mind-blowingly fascinating to watch. Dudes a good guy, and deserves the success.

What a fucking conversation. I’m a few years younger than Beast and my close friends and I have these discussions about media and specifically this actual internet culture of modern media a lot. I loved hearing y’alls takes with the added decade of life. I truly believe this next generation of real celebrities are going to be much more involved with growing and preserving communities and culture; it is already happening all over youtube at least. Genuine individuals stand out especially in entertainment media, so the actual icons of this new age are hopefully very promising.

i think its important to note that a youtube view isn't the same as a SuperBowl view for example. if you have 100000 views on music video that's ok, but if you have 100000 viewers live at a concert that's incredible. its like how 1 million subs on youtube is great, but on tik tok its not that crazy. he's the king of youtube but he's not the king of media, and even then his audience is mostly kids, which is less impressive than having mostly adults watching, because its easier to get a kids attention. he's insanely impressive but he's not like the media guy,because a youtube view isn't worth the same as a live view or a movie view etc, ppl on youtube watch more content, their attention spans are shorter, its easy to get somebody to click on your video, its hard to get them to watch a movie
@pokermitten9795

A note that can be gathered from your note is that the landscape is so fragmented that there really is no king of media. Rogan is the closest but there are literally billions of people that don't give a shit about him. Many platforms in many styles with many people watching many creators. It just isn't all lined up like it was when it was only tv/movie/radio/print
@Rowsy91
@Rowsy91 2 жыл бұрын
Very fair points. Rogan getting 11 M downloads per podcast, to your point, has A LOT more influence and reach than having a youtube video get 60 M views, esp if its mainly kids your younger people. Influence is a lot grander when its adults vs kids viewership 100p. On top of that when the content is longform discussion or news vs entertainment there is also a huge disparity on the actual influence of the content creator With all that said what Mr Beast has done is damn impressive and if he were motivated by money he could easily create an empire with what he is doing.

i feel like andrew missed the mark when it comes to movies. im currently 19 and my generation is still really fond of film, especially stuff like the marvel movies. knowing the names of movie starts is still pretty common as well, but tv shows not so much; which is probably because theres more of a culture around seeing movies. i do feel like the latest generation probably are more into just consuming media through youtube though, but i doubt movies will die out any time soon like TV is.

With changing times, the popular culture changes. Young kids are all about TikTok, KZbin, Video Games, Instagram, etc. While the Millennials, Gen-X, and Baby Boomers are still hooked to Legacy Media, ESPN, Streaming Services like Netflix, and Celebrities from their time period. Obviously the newer Generation will win the cultural battle over time due to the older generations dying simply because of age. If you want to make money in the changing culture, you have to pick up the new ways of doing things, or become obsolete.

There's a lot of people out there that pretend like they'd be virtuous philanthropists if they had that type of money. You always hear people say it "bruh, if I had that type of money I'd give it to charity." Most people that earn this type of income never give it away, they become more conservative. But Mr.Beast is out here giving it all away, feeding the poor. I hope there's a spot in heaven for this kid.

And what blew me away was that he did the entire squid game thing WHILE he was fasting..
