Bobby Paige is a former crack dealer and pimp from New York City. Over the years he has seen the errors of his ways and now drives through the streets of Harlem in his "Crack-Mobile". His goal is to inform the youth of the dangers of drugs and peddle his t-shirts and book "Mr. Crack" to curious locals.
Paige's frank assessment of the highs and lows of the 1970-80's inner city drug scene are an important insight into New York's boom era of Crack-Cocaine.

Crack is horrible because you crave the drug minutes after taking a hit so it creates incredibly impulsive and addictive behaviors. It's actually not that hard to detox from cocaine but it's very hard to stay off of it because of the depletion of certain neurotransmitters that are result of using this powerful stimulant on a regular basis. If an addict can be removed from his environment and also be provided certain vitamins and minerals and other supplements to replenish the neurotransmitters sobriety can be achieved. Methamphetamines and powerful opiates like fentanyl in heroin are the 2 scariest drugs I have ever seen in my life. sad thing is drugs are great and they work very well for certain length of time but eventually it stops working and then that's when things get extremely dark. You simply are using just to try to stay somewhat normal and the depression from not even being able to escape the nightmare you're in because of tolerance and addiction can lead to suicide and insanity.

Most of the "older" people who got addicited to crack started on FREEBASE coke. That was how crack came to be. the late 1970'a people were free-basing cocaine. That lead to the 1980's crack epidemic. My older sibling is STILL out there after 35 YEARS on this shit. They started Free-basing at 18 yrs. old.

I personally know a married couple who smoke crack friday night into wee early Saturday morning. Then they stop. They both have worked the same job for 15 years plus. Rarely miss work. Own 2 vehicles and a home. Thier kids have thier own apartments, work and attend college. No one in thier family including thier kids know that they smoke crack. What I've learned from them is it's not what you do but how you do it. Someone who enjoys getting high but also enjoys the rewards for paying your bills is key😆

I found an article online that spoke of Bobby's efforts with this anti-crack crusading, published two years before this video. It says he was on crack for 20 years. The part that got me was that he was going to quit when the first van broke down and he got a double cancer diagnosis. Was in denial for months before he decided to buy a second van and keep going. The vans actually had fog coming out the roof too. My questions are: was he in remission at the time of this recording? Where is he today? Where are the books, shirts & vans? I can answer one question that's in the comments though... Bobby's sunglasses are made by Cazal. I personally knew of a neighborhood parent who did sex work to feed a crack habit and she died of AIDS in the 90s. So that's my most direct experience with it and that stayed with me after all this time. UPDATE: I seem to have found an online people search engine that has an entry with Bobby's LLC, and it claims he has passed on. So if true, since he would be in his 80s now if he was still alive, I'm glad he did this with the rest of his life.
