the most hilarious thing about MK censorship early on was that one of the early releases in germany had fatalities removed entirely. except the fatalities weren't actually removed, they were just not printed in the manual, so they were pretty much impossible to pull off unless you heard a rumour somewhere that you have to press whatever button combination with whichever character.

for the 4kids dubs many, many faults, I actually think changing Luffy's blood into sweat for the final fight made for a much more natural and interesting Finale to the fight. particularly because: 1 - it was introduced earlier in the arc that Luffy's rubber skin can't breathe in low oxygen environments and sweats profusely as a result. informing viewers that there are downsides to a devil fruits abilities beyond just the inability to swim before introducing crocodile and his powers. 2 - it gives thematic reason for the fight to continue in the tomb after Luffy lost the water barrels because now the tombs lack of ventilation causes him to sweat enough to still fight 3 - Luffy's downside makes him sweat at the same time crocs downside is being wet, being able to turn your own downside into an advantage in a fight is just a cool shonen action piece 4 - once i found out it was supposed to be blood, i was never able to be convinced he'd be able to bleed enough to damage croc while still being conscious from blood loss where-as sweat could cover his whole body and still be effective at fighting, particularly with the hits he'd taken up to that point

Thanks for this. I'll be interested to see this, as Crocodile is the antagonist fans seem to relegate the most, after Moria. Almost everyone seems to forget how _much_ stronger Crocodile was than Luffy and that he basically threw away an easy certain victory to try and make Luffy suffer. (I remember a nutjob flame war between *100%* certain people on if he's trans, from the scantest of implication and against those who just as fervently fought the very possibility. Neither would concede an inch.)

@TheLordofMetroids anything over 200 chapters isn't worth starting. That requires a substantial amount of time investment that most people don't have. Anything over 100 episodes is even worse, unless you can watch it at 2× speed(at minimum). Then there is the fact that Oda isn't as great of a writer as he is a world builder. His world building is next level, his writing reminds me of high-school creative writing classes. His world is fascinating, but isn't worth the investment it requires. Better to read wiki entries and summaries than actually read or watch.

Wiki Weekends and One Piece is a combo I'm definitely here for! It's pretty much the perfect topic for this style of video, and I look forward to seeing how far down the One Piece rabbit hole you go. I hope doing this doesn't cause Lucas to get spoiled too badly though if he's anime-only. Without going into specifics, there are a few minor spoilers for the arc after Wano on Crocodile's wiki page, and I can definitely imagine that for other characters of similar notoriety there might be more major ones.

Hi, sorry to hear you got the brunt of the community in the first video about one piece. Or your second, after your love letter ;) I think people might have been a bit on edge with the live action trailer coming out on the same weekend, although that is no excuse. Nobody can expect you to be a Tekking101 on knowing One Piece. And of course, you also cannot hope to cover everything in half an hour. One Piece is filled with so many easter eggs. And a part of that is in the cover stories or the SBS (Q&A of Oda) or other parts of the manga, which you probably have not read. By the way, those could be really interesting wiki weekends to cover. Then you also won't have to explain so much by yourself to Karl, as the issues would be new to you as well. No idea if the wiki entries for those are any good, though. Best of luck. I am enjoying this immensely.

Don't worry too much about missing pieces of One Piece lore - there are multiple fan theories about Crocodile based on throw-away lines, and more from fan Q&A's Also, translation is _extremely_ finnickey, between fan works, anglicization, and censorship - One onepiece character is known as Jose, Jaws, Joss, Joz, or Jozu based on your source. Onepiece is best enjoyed however you like it

This led to the theory that the sand forms to his self image and the unconscious actions from habit temporarily restored his hand without him noticing. Obviously in universe Crocodile is just his given name, but IIRC it's not uncommon to say that someone with dry, scaly skin has skin like a crocodile, which is quite apropos for a guy who can suck all the moisture out of people.

I mean the 4kids dub is definitely the way I learned of one piece when I was younger, but I thought it had stopped after drum island. Also I might get some hate for this but I actually really like the opening song they had lol and while I agree with Karl that a lolipop is more interesting but I'm pretty sure Sanji is supposed to imitate the french in some ways (hence the cooking, smoking, womanizing bordering on misogamy that's just plain creepy sometimes, etc). It is unfortunate though that you didn't have time to go into detail with the rain powder and how it steals rain by making it rain sooner than it would making the city where Corcodile lives the only one not in a drought and making Crocodile almost a mystic divine chosen persona in the eyes of the people. Or how Crocodile would just periodically send a small sandstorm that would grow super large to an abandoned town except for one old man who believed that there was water left under the town in an aquifer but his digging keeps being undone by sandstorms and then when he finds a little bit of water before the sandstorm wipes away all his work again that's the water he gives Luffy that he uses against Crocodile to avoid being dehydrated again but then learns Croco-boy's weakness. But if you talked about everything than these would be hours long and Karl might not be able to hold on lol

As far as I'm aware, skipping ads does stop us earning money from the ad, we only earn if the viewer watches it through, but also bear in mind that we have the option to not allow skippable ads if we want to, so don't worry too much about it. Thanks though! - Lucas

There's no perfect answer, as we say, it's not like we live in a world in which we think piracy doesn't exist, but we also just don't want it promoted on the channel is all. I guess doing something like buying the manga or supporting subscription services is the 'right' way to help out, it's all just so messy and I don't pretend to know all the ins and outs enough to think I have a great answer either. Also, I don't think that we should have influence on people's way of consuming content either! We just think we should be able to ask our community to not promote certain things within our comments, but beyond that we can't (and don't want to) control what our audience does ☺️ Hope this clears things up a bit. - Lucas
