Mr. Frear suffers from auditory hyperesthesia, which is a real condition. People with auditory hyperesthesia have an abnormal increase in hearing, which results in an increased sensitivity to ordinary sounds that wouldn't bother the average person. Having all those people so close to him, making all those sounds really bothers him.
