This is a story I feel needs to be directly adapted with little to no changes at all. This is the play to create an amazing and sympathetic villain, to have a great and well developed story, and bring some emotional heft to DC movies. Hopefully the Matt Reeves movies can manage to try this story out sometime soon. Mr. Freeze has always deserved a great live action adaptation.

To be honest, Grundy and Freeze are the two rogues that would perfectly fit an offshoot of a Batman team. Freeze really doesn't want to hurt anyone but is pushed so hard he thinks he has no choice. In White Knight, he joins the Batfamily as the tech/science guy building weaponry for them. Grundy on a good day is basically the Hulk and he works really well one on one with heroes. So Justice League Dark would be perfect for him.

Batman the Animated Series did a lot of heavy lifting making Mr. Freeze a villain with pathos. They gotta just give my man the W and let his wife be cured. In a world where Poison Ivy, Manbat, Clayface, and Harley Quinn can be heroes, I'm just saying.
@SpaghettiYOLOKing3 ай бұрын
True, but then you no longer have a villain in Freeze. All that you listed, with probably the exception of Harley, always have the potential of regressing back to villainy. Nora gets cured, no side effects that make her cold blooded like Freeze himself, Freeze no longer has a reason to be a villain anymore. This one shot actually gives the implication that if he is able to cure her, he would be a better husband to her than he was before as he sees the truth of her words in her final journal entry. So if he cures her, the only thing left for him to do is to fix his own condition, which he could likely do since his focus wouldn't be 100% devoted to Nora's condition and Batman would likely help him in reversing his condition. Even if Nora got cured and ends up leaving him, at that point, he'd be happy with having cured her and given her what doctors couldn't. But I doubt writers would go that route. If Nora is ever cured, it's only being done to close the book on Mr. Freeze for good. But I do agree. It should happen. Mr. Freeze, as he is now, has only had this backstory for 32 years. Before that, he was a super cheesy Sci-Fi villain that did heists with a freeze raygun. Just a normal dude that was a thief. BTAS completely changed him and gave him this backstory, an episode that I'm pretty sure won an Emmy. It's not like he's used often. There's only so many stories that can be told with Mr. Freeze. I'd say with his addition to One Bad Day, there's only one story left to tell with him, but I doubt DC will pull that trigger any time soon.

Beautiful story, and a fascinating look into Victor's psychology. Even if he had the ability to save her, he couldn't go through with it. He's been putting her up on a pedestal for so long... that... saving her means the fantasy would end. Somewhere along the line, he stopped loving her and began loving the idea of her. The second she thaws out, she becomes flawed... normal... real.

I hated it. It was character-assassination, turning one of the most nuanced characters in the Batman mythos into just abusive evil crazy villain number 5243.

@@MarsM13 A. A character can't a villain without some combination of evil and crazy. And B. Are you sure you understand what the word "nuanced" means? Psychologically speaking, this is pretty complex. Much more so than the typical "I WANT POWER/MONEY" villains.
@CheckersMcGavern3 ай бұрын
@@tysondennis1016 That's totally fair, yeah. I think the part I loved the most about this story was how... regardless of his own inability to actually help her... he still helped Batman by giving him that revelation in medical technology. Showing that he does still love and respect his wife, despite his own fears.
@MarsM133 ай бұрын
@@CheckersMcGavern He's an abusive husband who wants complete control over his wife. That's not nuanced. The Heart of Ice version does have nuance. He genuinely and truly loves his wife, to the point that he will do anything to save her. His evil is that he doesn't care about the world as a whole at all. She's his world, and everyone else be damned. That's a much more nuanced character than him just being an abusive, controlling husband who loves that his wife can't talk back to him or spend his money anymore. The original is a blend of good and evil. This one is pure evil.

I genuinely can’t imagine what more could have been done because even in a world where Freeze’s wife is cured it seems like it could only end in a different tragedy.
