Oh please. Like every game has to have simple controls. Try Actraiser 2 if you want to see a game with truly difficult controls. This is easy. You clearly just have to lead the shot to know where the star will end up.

Shittiest weapon in any NES game. Makes the torch look great. I hate trying to jump on/ off it too. Most of the charm of the game is probably the OST, but it sounds like complete ass in the PAL version. The Famicom music is far, far better.

The whole gimmick of the game (no pun intended) is to find creative uses of the star weapon by trial and error. I, myself have been playing this fame for about 8 years, and still, am finding new ways to use this thing. I believe its multi purpose is what makes it very fun! New ways to defeat bosses/enemies, new approach options, and everything else! The only thing I saw on the stream was mostly complaints about it, and him using it incorrectly :)

Mike if you can manage to collect the secret item in every level without using a continue you'll access the 7th stage and get the best ending. The pink flags on the map screen mean that you got the secret item from that level.

But you can make only 1 at a time O_O That was so time consuming and boring at times just to wait that little bastard to stop jumping across the walls and everything else xD But once you master the physics of that star, the game will automatically become more fun when you have that mechanic hardwired in your brains and wrist muscles.

There are two lockout chips used for the PAL region, those are called PAL-A and PAL-B. PAL-A is for the UK, Italy and Australia market. PAL-B is for the rest of Europe and is more common. I think you got a scandinavian (PAL-B) Mr Gimmick since I believed it was only released there. The Top Loader doesn't check the lockout so it must be something else preventing the game there.

Swedish is actually pretty easy to read, as long as you understand it.. :D When you showed the manual the first part was Swedish, then Danish, then Finnish, maybe it would be a Norwegian part in their too, since Mr.Gimmick is supposed to be a Scandinavian release only I think, except Japan. I dont know much about NES though. So I could be wrong. And then you can ask, why is there Finnish in the manual when Finland is not part of Scandinavia? I think we know why, but still, Finland is not part of Scandinavia, so I guess it probably is not a Scandinavian "exclusive" after all? Since it likely was sold or exported to Finland by Bergsala in Sweden.

First heard about this game back in 2009 and played the game on an NES emulator on my PC. I have this game on an everdrive flash cart and my copy of the ROM works (with a top loader) but the bottom of the screen which shows my health and other stuff is nearly glitched to totally glitched out mess, the game is playable for me and lots of fun. I ordered a reproduction cart of this game and will be testing that out on my Retro USB AVS.

It's Pal and released when SNES was already out. And Mr Gimmick was released only within a small Scandinavian area. So sadly the most of those amazing games were thrown in the trash than sold. And a price for that true gem of Nes era costs around 14000 in Britain. But in euros and dollars it costs even more. It is just sad that this game is so expensive. Because it is one of the prettiest games I've played on the emulator. And soundtrack kicks ass as much as the difficulty. And ofc this game is one of the best platforms ever made.

ha you did the classic Switzerland/Sweden error... you're an american alright. By the way I've met the elusive designer behind this game and he said that Sunsoft made him put continues in, he wanted to have a few lives and then you have to start over, he was a "git gud" kind of man. I agree with Sunsoft though. Still he made it so you have to beat the game without dying to get to the final stage and get the true ending. Gimmick might have been inspired by Kirby(gameboy) but Sakurai was inspired by Gimmick when he made Kirby's Adventure.
