I am building a small concrete truck using an old Japanese micro truck and propane tank and to get someone on a video to tell you the step by step basics of how it exactly works is impossible - you’re video is OUTSTANDING - thank you for just getting to the point and being so thorough.

Jacob McGinnis Yes just got back behind the wheel after an 18 day break for Christmas holidays, been doing four or five loads a day and the weather's been hot. Some concrete jobs have had black oxide in the mix and with the heat it's a pain trying to keep the truck clean, having air conditioning in the cab is cool. (New Zealand )

Great video. Makes me appreciate my newer, cleaner, rust free automatic Kenworth.

Ramblin Man I know the automatics make the day easier...it gets a little old shifting 8, 9 (those great Oskhosh mixers) or 10 speeds...and the old Macks I trained on (had 5 speed reverse, which was great when you had a job that required you to back up a 1/4 of a mile or more...downshifting in reverse was a head trip until you got accustomed to it!)...5 speed. So I get why the automatic. They were very few when I retired but then a couple years after companies started rotating them into their fleet. I have mixed emotions about it. Most of the guys NOW have all paid their dues on the manual...but soon we'll have mostly guys that never had to hump a 9 speed Oshkosh up a steep incline...it took judgement and skill...knowledge of what you're truck could and couldn't do. You had to know how to drive and pour (which IS the job...an art in itself). I just guess I'm an old guy that hates to see the old war horses we bounced around in but served us so well put out to pasture. Be careful out there, guys (and ladies).
@ramblin_man232 жыл бұрын
@@1060michaelg man it sounds like you had a lot of fun with them things. Wish I could have driven them. Yeah our automatic KWs are plush and comfortable and can move but they get stuck easy in mud and sand. Heard we have a couple manual Macks at our Pensacola plant that are getting replaced. Here in Dothan, AL we have the corporate office and there are several new T880 KWs sitting there getting prepped. Pcola and Panama City plants are getting them. We're gonna have to get some soon too because we're hiring like 10 new guys for big pours this year including a 27,000 yard FedEx distribution center. If we get some manuals in as spares I'm gonna jump in one for sure 😁 👍

@@ramblin_man23 Hey there, RM. Yeah, it was like being a boy with a real live Tonka Truck, lol! I especially like miss the 5 speed revers on the R model Mack...I've had them up to 50 in reverse, on a state job on the PA turnpike putting in a new span over the river (Susquehanna). That's the only way you could get back to the pump was in reverse and those boys didn't want to wait a spell for each truck so we had to haul ass. But I tell ya, I kind of envy you guys, automatic, all a/c...you guys got it made! And, in the end, the REAL job is pouring...having the finesse and the touch to meet the needs of each job. Holler anytime, my friend and be safe out there!
@ramblin_man232 жыл бұрын
@@1060michaelg 50 in reverse sounds fun 😁 Ours only goes like 12 mph floored. Yeah the newer trucks also with power mirrors, cameras, and Bluetooth radio is nice. I've only been driving for 9 months, wish I started years ago. I'll holler at you for sure 👍
@1060michaelg2 жыл бұрын
@@ramblin_man23 Yeah, things were a little more rumble tumble back then...there was more "look the other way" by the DOT. There definitely, in all areas of life, was a more "hands off" approach to agency interference...especially on the individual. GO BENGALS!! Talk at ya soon, Ramblin':)

I will be applying for a job like this real soon. I used to make concrete statues, benches, tables, etc... We applied certian oil to molds, frames and even various sizes of buckets after getting loads. It would be way easier to clean after we were done. Would this be a good suggestion to keep your truck clean? Maybe it's not allowed?? Thanks in advance, hope everyone's been safe and is surviving!
@SafeTravells3 жыл бұрын
Hi- oils are used on form walls but the truck would become a dangerous platform with slippery oils- so the truck gets an occasional acid bath to remove concrete residue- good luck in your new pursuits for 2021!
