This is a classic that should be remembered and celebrated.

The songs are wonderful. The meaning of this tune that the love of this family for each other overcomes their poverty. Plus the one where Scrooge as a boy, abandoned at his school, must endure the sting of intense loneliness. Heavy stuff, but simply and beautifully handled. The schoolroom song can still bring a lump in the throat as it did 60 years ago

This tv special was just a simple animation but the characters, the script, the spirit of the message and the music made it an unforgettable classic. I grew up watching it every year but took it for granted at the time. I think Mr Dickens would have enjoyed it.

Remember the days when viewing these specials was an event. Three TV networks, limited broadcasting time, no video recording media. When this or anything Charlie Brown came on, it was truly an event not to be missed or you were SOL for a year. Now, being able to pop in a DVD and see it any time really makes the kids today take this stuff for granted. It's a shame.

This masterpiece was a regular part of my family's Christmases back in the 1960s (during the days when we had to wait for it to be shown on network TV -- and then wait, again, until "next year...") I'd say that Dickens' message and call to repentance and mercy is powerfully presented -- but in the style of a real Broadway musical, with songs by Broadway greats Jule Styne and Bob Merrill. Why don't they show it on TV anymore? We wouldn't expect to find a bright diamond in a garbage can, would we?

It's amazing how a simple cartoon can bring back such tender memories of so many years past. The people who created the soundtrack were awesome! I remember getting scared during the 'Dispicable' song when the background turned black & all I could see were their mouths singing. I also remember feeling so sad for young Scrooge during the "I'm All Alone in The World" song. I think Charles Dickens would have enjoyed seeing this version of his work. It conveyed his message so well!
