I was honestly relieved when RTT wasn't in this song, I'd been so underwhelmed by Jason Derulo I didn't want to either begrudgingly like him or to hate him cos he ruined both my favourite songs. I'm not hating on Derulo I just think he really didn't fit vocally or presence wise as much as you might think he would on paper and making the RTT song less sexualised wasn't a good call in my books. As it was I am perfectly happy with the ot3 movie version.

Well I guess I've watched this one too many times-I've noticed all these little interactions between the cats. One of the more obvious is Rum Tum Tugger pointing and grinning at 00:30. Also, he encourages Mr. Mistofflees a couple of times-watch closely at 1:01 and this little nod at 1:24. Also Rum Tum Tugger and Mungojerrie point and nod at each other at 1:21. 00:39: "Okay!". Has anyone else noticed any little things like this?

I hope the movie hasn't gone with the rapper version of his character. This song really makes it clear that when Old D finally passes, it'll definitely be Rum Tum and not Munkustrap that succeeds him as the tribe's worldly and adored leader.

I feel Munkustrap will be the practical leader the tribe needs, but Tugger is the glue and right hand's man needed to keep everyone together. He wouldn't make a good leader, he is too impulsive. This is my favorite song in Cats, I always viewed RTT and Mistoffolies as best friends (though I could see them as a couple too). Whatever their relationship is, just the way that RTT sings this song and talks about Mistoffolies you can tell he not only cares about him but has 100% confidence in him and support for him even if Mistoffolies doesn’t have it for himself (also I don’t think that’s the case personally). He doesn’t even mourn he immediately is like: dude my boy can fix this lemme tell you about his amazing ness. And then the fact that the first thing RTT does when he sees Dueteronomy is to tell him very gently who brought him back and immediately direct him to Mistoffolies says so much about how RTT cares about him. I always thought Mistoffolies was paired with the cat he used to perform the trick with because of HOW he brings her back into the group, he doesn’t casually lead her by the hand, he reaches for her, pulls her to him, holds her and walks back with her in sync like she is someone of great importance to him. Either way, love it.

I have the album, and even though 'Memory' is the most popular song, it's interesting that Mr. Misoffolees got the centerfold photo on the album. People say John Partridge (obviously Rum Tum Tugger) tried to make it about him. And he kind of did succeed. He's almost always somewhere visible in the background. And while I certainly see Old Deuteronomy as their spiritual head, Rum Tum Tugger kind of leaves the impression that he is their leader on a non spiritual level.

In my head Munk was the non official leader and would take over from Deuteronomy but in the way that Tugger was supposed to as an older brother or something but Tugger didn't want to be a leader officially so he passed it onto Munk. In the show Munk seems to be the leader, fighting with Macavity etc and looking after Deuteronomy at the back instead of being involved in the dancing all the time.

I only just now noticed how many of the others try to volunteer just before he chooses Cassandra. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer both seem completely ready, as well as Electra and Jennyanydots, and Etcetera is all but losing her mind. Even Victoria starts to move like maybe she's offering, too, before the shot cuts away. I wonder why he chooses Cassandra? And the fact that Mungo and Rumple are willing to help despite how afraid they (especially Mungojerrie) are of Macavity and how this might be a risky move for them is very sweet to me. (also at 1:19 how Tugger and Mungo have this little wordless interaction while Misto is prepping, it's too precious.) I love watching all the background interactions and this song is one of my favorites in the show in large part because I can only imagine what it must've been like to be in that cast, rehearsing and filming this. When he does all those jumps and other impressive dance moves that I don't know the terminology for, that's always to me very much been a moment of, yeah, Mr. Mistoffelees is about to do something amazing, but that also really is Jacob Brent doing incredible dance moves, and that really is his castmates cheering him on while he performs. I just think this number in particular is sort of the quintessential theatre experience to me, where all the different aspects that go into a complex show come together and make something really wonderful that must've been such a joy to work on. Anyway like three months ago I couldn't even spell Jellicle but here we are, life has a funny way.

According to what happened behind the scenes: Laurie had to prepare choreography for his Mistoffelees audition, but because he is not a trained dancer, his audition dance was "awful" and "brazen". However, this is what caught Tom Hooper's attention and influenced what the movie character would become.

Lea AJ There rarely is the same cast over different seasons as singers, actors and performers move on to do different things and aren't always available. And this is a cinematographic version for DVD, starring Elaine Paige from the original Cats in the 80's. Louis Spence was in Cats once, loads of different production companies put on all sorts of different shows in the west end, not just the same one. We saw an amateur production at our local theatre and while the costumes and dancing weren't as good I have to admit I think the singing and overall vocal performance was better than this. Every show is different, that's the magic of live theatre. 🙃

Yes I believe Misto is his nickname by Cats enthusiasts I'm just going with it. Mr. Mistoffles is an awesome cat I love how magical he is. Yes it's cool to see him magically bring back their cat god Old Deuteronomy. I know he's the leader of the cat clan, just like God is spiritual our leader her on earth. You can't always see him, but we can feel him like poor Grizabella did after the cats shunned her the frist time she felt his presents watching her and protecting her. I also love how Mr. Mistoffles is the frist one to turn around and second cat to accept her at the end after his Queen/mate Victoria does.

I have the original album on vinyl. And it's interesting that while Grizabella is the one who gets to sing the signature song (obviously 'Memory'), it was Misto who got the huge center photo in the album. While he doesn't sing his own song, it's quite arguable that he has the most spectacular moment. He restores all the lights that MaCavity shorted out; he restores happiness after the horrible recent sadness; he saves Old Deuteronomy; he dances with Cassandra; and he disappears in an awesome flash.

I believe in the original London version (maybe Broadway too not sure) Misto sang his own song. However it's extreamly hard to dance and sing at the same time which is why they had Rum Tum Tuger sing his song I belive.
