if you have a property (place to live with no mortgage) then you can work (be more flexible) just to pay daily living expenses, groceries, car insurance, phone bill, internet, gym membership, hydro, etc.

Fundamentally, the real content begins from 30:13. Both offer steely advice and show their true colours from this marker. Jesse displays strength of strategy while Pete displays underwriting conviction. Jesse/YNAB are system focused while Pete ultimately focuses on 'intention' If you can marry both approaches then the average person has much to gain from their first principle wisdom. Just by simply starting and adopting their frameworks. Whether one chooses to mimic Pete's conviction/frameworks isn't the point. Their point is to understand, from first principles, your motives and intentions then reason up from there. Impressed with their very human and accessible approach to removing the fear from money management.

I really loved this discussion! I particularly enjoyed the conversation about the mortgage. I just paid off my mortgage... And although I understand having a mortgage technically would make sense, it makes me much more happy not to have it! So grateful for your writing Pete!

Hahaha I love his comment on cars. My eyesight to not good enough to drive. Everybody in my life is like "but you could drive there" No. I can't drive there. Driving for groceries and stuff like that isn't normal. My shops are a 5 minute walk. I love it.

So true! Stay out of the parenting rat race and travel sports, your kids will be completely happy with an old-fashioned childhood.

Trying to reduce the things you dont want in life is a good plan. But the thing to remember about stress is there are good types of stress that make you grow.

"In America you know how it is, if people have a choice between getting something for free and paying for it, people always want to pay."
@AlexaMorales6 жыл бұрын
While there is truth to that statement, most musicians would have trouble believing it because we work in a field where a lot of people *don't* want to pay for it. 💩
@AlexaMorales6 жыл бұрын
BUT the bottom line is money is how we Americans express value, so if something is free or low-cost we figure it's not valuable, and if a crappy thing is expensive we assume the opposite is true.

To get the attention of a crowd without a microphone- Say in a big strong voice If you can hear me clap once (then clap loudly one time) If you can hear me clap two times (clap loudly twice) If you can hear me clap three times (the crowd will jump in and clap loudly three times) Immediately thank everyone for paying attention. Works every time!

I have a clean burning Civic ;) Natural Gas, I bought it used for $7,000 cash. I pay a little over half of what a "normal gas Civic" in fuel because here in Southern California Gas is about $3.70-$3.99 and my CNG fuel is about $2.00-$2.20 a gallon.

Most people who talk about F.I.R.E recommend making 50k or more . When 15/hour(Colorado minimum) will only get you 28k. I still see how the financial principals still apply but retiring early will likely be a lot harder. Specially with debt

Sounds like you need to move somewhere where the pay is higher, or get 2 jobs. It's all about priorities. Want to work until you need diapers again? Decisions, decisions
